Another Romulan Warbird Spotted in the Shipyards

Talk about anything related to old versions of Armada.

I'd recommend first having a look at Pepperman's previous models of Atolm/Azel's designs, before commenting on how well it "fits in".

The thing is, all of Atolm/Azel's Romulan ships follow this same kind of styling, which, although it doesn't match the canon Romulans so well, look awesome in their own right. If you were to put things on it to make it look more Trek-like, you would detract from the overall lineage of Atolm's designs, which go together very well by themselves.

This, Pepperman, is another fine example of the work you and him put together. Nice job. :-)

I'm totally aware of Atolm/Azel's designs.  I went and looked them up after reading this thread, and there were quite a lot of them.  He mostly prefers to design ships for time periods outside the scope of the shows, in order to split from canon without making waves.  He likes doing his own thing.

I would love to see this ship get accepted as a playable unit in this FleetOps.  I would love to see it become popular in the community and accepted by everyone as a cool, well-made model.  If Pepperman is aiming for the ship to go into the game, it needs a couple tweaks.  The design process is never finished the first time you show it to other people.

So if you just wanted to show us a cool ship that isn't for Fleet Ops, then I'm sorry that I misunderstood so badly.  It really is a sweet-looking ship and would go great in a personal mod.

What I try to do is make models that others might like to enjoy using in their respective games.  I will typically post them for the Armada, SFC and BC communities...some like them and some don't.  I respect their opinions and  suspect the same will apply here.  I try not to debate the merits of Atolm/Azel's designs because I am not him and don't want to even try to speak for him.  Personally, I like his designs and have worked on this perticular set off and on over the year.  Any of the models I have made can be used by fleet ops or others.

I don't get a lot of time to model and personally consider myself still a novice in that regard.  I like to try and stay true to the design as best I can but adjust as needed within the scope of my modeling skills.  Nonetheless, I think I have gotten a little better over the years.  Just so everyone knows, it is not my intention to cause a firestorm here or any place.

I've always thought of you as one of the more experience and better modellers in the community. I know many have always been big fans of your work, and look forward to every new Romulan ship you release.

I'd like to ask that everybody here take a step back and calm a bit down :)

Remember, this is the Armada 1 / II subforums, and stuff here doesn't need to have anything to do with Fleet Operations. :) The Fleet Ops forum does not exist to serve just FO content  ^-^

I believe Pepperman's aim was to showcase the pretty model and textures, and so he did

Please keep it polite and respect other's opinions - if there are comments about the model, feel free to share them, but there's no need to point fingers.

Hmm, a hypotetical assumtion:
Nathan is asking for the use of the base-model, will adapt it to fleet-ops and we have a new, nice ship. This way, nobody must change the basic-model, the work is splitted in half, FO gets a new ship, many happy players and happy artists.

Only the "right to change the model and use it for non-profit usage" must be given.

@Majestic
I dont think the community hates the design. The feedback on this is pretty clear and the reason why we want to alter the design is because we think the design is so awesome, that it could get a place in the ingame-fleet. I we wont like it, we had'nt postet for it in the first way. ;-)

Nevertheless, credit should be given to the artists and I think they did a great job here. :-)

i have removed/edited some posts so the thread is less off topic and more about the actual model itself. if there is anything i might have missed, just let me know.

nice work on the model. when looking at in the context of a romulan 'warbird', it is not entirely to my taste. as previously mentioned it lacks the aggressiveness some may expect from such a vessel.
aesthetically i like it a lot

back to topic: I like the model, especially the main body. The wings could be a bit more "solid" for my personal taste, but their shape and style is very nice. A good texture can do alot, so I'm looking forward to see the final model!

The texturing part as it is the most time consuming part for me and tries my patience on occassion.  When I release it I will include the appropriate language so that it get the most usage and/benefit.

I am still at it.  Here's a little teaser to show you how the raised panels might look.

By the orginal, you mean the solid green version below.

What I am trying to do is keep it similar to other ships in the fleet such as the Ael' hlaiim Class Warbird shown below.

I see the Ael' hlaiim model the first time and I think it is a very nice ship to be a romulan flag-ship (or similar). Very nice. I like the design. :-)

Maybe this current one can serve as escort duty.  I think two of these escorting the Ael' hlaiim Class Warbird would be an awesome site.
