Talk about anything related to old versions of Armada.

yes, i have begun work on the map backwards compatibility problem this week and made some important progress with it. it's not hold or cancelled. still i see a lot of problems with the rest of the available stuff that is integrated in the fo launcher. it is not that modular anymore as it has been when the last PP was released and to be honest i was thinking about partly canceling it by reducing it to be a patch for those who just want to play stock Armada 2 under vista etc without any modding extras and instead improve the modability (is that a real word? ) of fleet operations.

cant just some of the FO stuff be added like the rest of the replace weapon features, race sheilds and fleetcaps or are they too linked into the problems.

unfortunately it's not an easy task, our work horse, the replaceweapon is heavily bound to other components.

Can I get a ranking thingy for stock? If not maybe a wormhole imp thing where in the odf you define how many wormholes makes a 'complete' one?
Like if I defined it as 4 than it'd work as: End 1 to end 2, end 2 to end 3, end 3 to end 4, and end 4 to end 1.
Either of those would be fine.

Well, you have to admit... hardcoding takes a lot of trial and error and repeated testing.

hi! Why don't you use the FO loader to the patch too? The base of FO is stock too, then you shouldn't do the same thing twice. I hope the project won't be canceled, cause i want the new features in the stock game.

that's because we have a lot of hardcoded stuff too, that makes it just incompatible in the current state.
i always also had the stock version in mind when writing the code, i tried to modify existing feature as few as possible and tried to enhance existing stuff without breaking it or add new code that is independent from stock code. integrating new features is a very slow process and even slower when i add "multiple choice" code for stock armada and fleet operations or try to not change existing stuff. so not everything has been coded that way, otherwise fleet operations 3.0 final wouldn't even be released today. it's not possible to just put the current loader into the current stock version (even if you let aside that we have a slightly different folder structure) i can think of several hardcoded fleet operations related code that will let a stock game crash before you even have successfully started it... so no, its not that easy as i said, i am working on it and made progress with the all important map backward compatibility problem (oh yea, another reason why it would just crash on you if you would put the loader into stock). if you like to get the loader features right now, i'd recommend to use the current fleet operations version as base

Mostly I am interested in the new Races. How is that progress going? We have already seen a good bit of Noxter material, and at least one Ciadan vessel. I would preferably see some Iconian ships. If there are no pictures, what sort of designs do the Iconioans preferably use?

this thread is more about the PP (Patch Project for stock Armada 2) but i can give you a short answer anyway. The Noxter won't be included with the upcoming patch. We have done no work so far on the Ciadan or Iconians. It also should be noted that we are currently thinking about some conceptual changes about the latter two.

I was afraid this issue might come up since I hadn't seen any new developments for a while. Some of the best features from FO are what I have been waiting for to be integrated into the PP. Most notably, the ability to research ship/system upgrades and not having them get destroyed when the research station goes up in smoke. I've tried using the odf commands from FO but obviously they haven't been integrated. To tell you the truth, I really like Fleet Ops. The only thing that is holding me back is that FO doesn't have any single player capability. This is the only reason I am waiting around for more FO features to be added to the Patch Project. Can you possibly reactivate the single player functionality in Fleet Ops? I don't even care about new missions. I mod my own mission maps and objectives text files myself. I love all of the FO features even as they are, I just don't want to give up single player mode capability. That's my 2 cents.

Single player is being brought back in the next patch for Fleet Operations (as creating your own missions is now mostly possible).
