Armada 2 Files , i need permission for ships and stations

Hello there,

i want to create my own armada 2 mod , and show it on youtube
long ago i found this site armada 2 files , now i need many permissions
for ships stations planets and so on.

what is about modders that wanted to have permission but you can't reach them anymore?
there is much to read but it is old and i want to known the current situation ,
of what i got to do.

as far as i know , i got to ask for permission , and i put the read me files in an folder.
and additionally i create a file with all names and thing i want to use.

i was sending some e mails , please forget them , they are no the current situation.
i found some mistakes in my list beside my english ..... I'm half german / half dutch.

so at the end i need to know , who I can ask and who no more , out of whichever reasons.
I want to use the ships stations and other things at last :sweatdrop:

i :wub: star trek so please give me permission.
i tried to create my own buttons ,if i would only have the permission, so i can go on.
i love to see those ships ,the work of you who did that is just great !

Are you making the mod for Armada 2 directly, or are you using the Fleet Operations engine?

I would recommend that you do it through Fleet Ops, as it is more stable and easier to run on new computers. If you do this, then even if you are using Armada 2 assets, you are technically working on a Fleet Ops mod, and the developers have given everyone permission to use Fleet Ops assets in Fleet Ops mods. That seems to me like it would help with a lot of the permissions you are looking for.

If you keep asking around, you may be able to get an answer directly from a Fleet Ops Dev who can confirm this.

If you seek the permisison of other modders, then I would suggest to post the list of the ships+modders you want to use. I'm sure we can help you to reach at least some of them.

at first is it for real aad moerman is gone? :'( my father is a dutchman , i learn dutch at the moment :'(

it is normal armada 2 , my knowlegde goes not that far to use your engine :-\
i will have a look at Fleetops.
i will see what i can learn from it. with your permission. westwoods book helped me a lot ,
but i don't understand it all , i hope it will come.
after 10 years i figured out how the enemy can build ships that are build into the game by me.
so now i want to get this all together what i have create an mod.
This is what i want to use , could be names are the double , sry for that.
And it is very much things i want to have in game. i wish i could create ships. i miss those sona fighters from
insurrection that come from the skys. and much of frankenfleet :lol:
i've got a big folder with all read me files
and i'm on it to create a list beside that.
than i could make final credits in videos where all names are in!
very important i need to know if someone don't want me to do colour changes with gimp !!!
99% stays as it is , most times it is weapons.that should look more like in the films. or time period.
but there'S great stuff about that :thumbsup:

Holy crap this man has done his research.

You need to use Fleet Ops engine, seriously. I recommend you install Fleet Ops and the Armada 2 Classic sub-mod so you can get an idea of how modded files are used. Basically it is an extension (programming term) which means the game will load all of the files from Fleet Operations, plus all of the files from your sub-mod folder. If there is a file in both places with the same name, it will only load the file from your sub-mod. In this way, a Fleet Ops sub-mod can use any files from Fleet Ops, or it can use none at all.

Was there a post giving everyone permission to use FO assets in a FO mod? Would you mind pointing me there please?

Let's see if I can give you a head start with info about some modders from the top of my head. Although it would have been easier if you would have listed the modders and then the mods...

First of all, Aad really passed away with a tragic suddenness :(
His policy however always was that anyone may use his stuff as long as proper credits are given. It is even indicated in most of his Readmes.
Same goes for PizzaTheHutt if I remember correctly. At least in the mods I'm familiar with, he allows anyone to use his works if proper credits are given.
Also the same goes for Project ACOM. I remember that we had an open policy about using our stuff back then.

SuperStarAsh, FahreS and Tycoon are the same person if my memory serves me right.

P81 is like the forefather of every modder for any Star Trek game. He wasn't around much even when I started modding 15 years ago and he's completely gone as far as I know. His work are used all the time, so I think that as long as you give credits, you'll be fine.
Terradyhne left the modding community ages ago and all his contacts I know of are not working any more, but I see his mods reused often so I think he would be fine with that.

Mayor Payne is very peculiar about his work, so you'll definitely ask his permission to use anything.

mikemckeon007, Fireball, chiletrek and thunderfoot are still occasionally around, you may have more luck finding them on MSFC though.

I can't help feeling myself a little left out from this illustrious company :P

Wow ok ,
That's a huge difference to the original game.
i've got a look at fleet ops .
you are working quite differently there, things i don't understand.

i'm using notepad and gimp , and i can not make ships by my own :-\
i wouldn't know were to begin. i started as said with westwoods big book :D

thats 10 years ago and i laid it down for personal reasons.
then i realised armada2files is gone and fortunately moved and saved.

and as i learned more english from internet i realised i need to have permission...
this word without joking i don't learned in school.

so before i show up anything i would say getting permissions first is the best :thumbsup:
then i can make videos to show what i have .

if i would use fleet ops engine it would be a complete new starting.
I would not even get that alone.

Hi Tecnitron,

nice to see that you are asking for permission to use my models.

As I have stated in my read me files:

My work can be used in other persons mods if they give proper credit in the read me, under the condition that this mod stays non commercial and is not uploaded to any form of paysite.

To clarify, just give proper credit where credit is due and do not try to make money out of my stuff, and I am fine with people using my work in their mods.

I have made my Armada2 models to have fun and others to have fun with them.

So go ahead and good luck with your mod.

very nice , now with each permission i can make new wireframes and buttons :D
thank you for that. the credits are in an folder in form of original files and
an additional listing as open office document and textdocument readme.
