Armada 2 on Windows 7 not showing main screen
Talk about anything related to old versions of Armada.

So...after hearing the word "Assimilate" the other day I had (and still have) a huge urge to play Armada 2. Thing is, I have a windows 7 machine. Somewhere I read that you can get the installer to work if you run the installer in safe mode. Game installed just fine, now I'm having troubles with the main screen.
When I launch the game the three loading screens work just fine, but as soon as it would go to the main screen I get a black screen. I can move my mouse and "select" different things such as options and single player etc, but it does not display.
I've tweaked my compatibility settings to no avail.
Any ideas?

Yes. 1.2.5 is installed.
Also, I am running 2 screens. However, I disabled the second monitor and still had the same problem.

Hm it is difficult to know what could be going on without more information about your computer's specifications . I presume you also tried with no compatibility settings?
Have you considered installing Fleet Operations and placing in the A2 Classic Mod? Star Trek Armada II: Fleet Operations - Star Trek Armada II Import It has all the missions intact I believe, and while there are a few graphical oddities for the shield animations I think the rest should be functional

I don't have Fleet Ops, and I'm not sure where I can buy it considering I've seen the main game going for $80 in places.

Fleet Operations is free - that's what this site's main project is . You just need an A2 executable to install and play
Hm, looks like it should be able to run the 1.2.5patched A2 fine, but there could be something system specific that I'm not aware of - I'm afraid you'll have to wait for someone more experienced in this matter than myself to respond

I would install FO and then install the A2 Import mod. That way you can still play the stock version. Stock A2 has a lot of bugs, the game was never finished when it was released. Pretty much a quick money grab campaign by Activision. However FO does solve a lot of the issues A2 has and with Blade's mod you can still play the stock game or most Stock mods with only a little bit of work.
