To continue on the idea, instead of deploying individual fighters what if fighters were deployed by squadrons using the Federation as an example; name squadrons like present day squadrons like the 211 Wake Island Avengers, 214 Black Sheep, or 311 Tomcats. There are thousands of squadrons in the world, and many more that can be made up.
An idea for carriers, why not allow fighters to be buildable as independent units, however on their own they have limited armaments i.e. torpedoes and will need a carrier or starbase to rearm. This would open up the field to great new tactics, and cool Dominion War battles. For instance the Federation the Avalon-class would be the premier carrier; if 36 fighters crashes the game then okay but max that bad boy out! The Akira-class if I recall from the cannon specs that it is suppose to carry 24 fighters. The Sovereign can be an optional carrier with one squadron, which lets be clear is 12 fighters.

If the Game were to include fighters they would be mere eye-candy in the scope of FleetOps. If the all knowing Wise developers in there wisdom were to include them in the game. They would be the same power as a scout. In Scale of size slightly larger than the work pods that buzz around the stations and yards and smaller than a scout. they should be deployed by the slowest /weakest ship the race has. For the Feds Ide say a TOS era Miranda or Maybe a Soyuz class ship.

I think, rather than as individual units, they would work better as EaW or Homeworld style fighters, as groups of fighters that acted independently, but stayed in relative formation. As the "unit" loses helath, fighters would be lost and the unit as a whole would deal less damage. I think this would work better than having to rearm them.
Though tbh, I would support any type fighter rehash.

Killer Bees!!! Swarms of them! nothing like work bee's armes with a side mounted Phaser or a Hornet with a side mounted Photon torpedo to mess up your ship's day.
