FO Shields to Stock A2 Issue

Hi all,

Trying to work with shields again and having an issue. If I copy over the requisite shield files from FO to my stock A2 build and choose one of the shield SOD's and name it Xshldx01 it works in game with the exception that the shield bubble is inside the ship and the phasers/photons look like they are stopping in space and hitting where the normal shield animation would be.

I posted a similar issue with Elrond's Blue Sheild Mod in the past and this is pretty much the same issue. How come though the sheilds work as intended in FO, but just bringing them over to Stock A2 and they change position on ships/stations? Is it a sprite editing trick or something?

Hi Rifraf - yes, in V3.0 we have hardcoded the shield effect to be 2x as large so that it matches with the damage effects. In V4 this will be configurable as you see fit :) . I think you will have to scale the shield SOD to make it match in that case.

As a work around, try messing with the 'shieldbuffer = x' line in the vessel and station odfs and tell us what happens.

D_N beat me to it. sheildbuffer didn't do anything, but I did remember shieldPad from way back and it does work to push the shields back out past the ship, but the downside is that it also pushed the weapon impacts out even further from the ship as well so they still don't make visual contact with the shield bubble.

Is it possible to have shields that geometrically match the ship? :ermm:

You may be able to figure something out with ignoreShield and animated models for ships, but it would need to be applied to every ship and station in the game.
