What is it?
The Star Trek: Armada II Patch 1.2 Project is an unofficial patch made by the developers of the Fleet Operations total conversion for Star Trek Armada II.
It is meant as a patch for every Armada II installation, despite of it is stock or has been modded. It patches serveral bugs that were not fixed with the latest official 2002 release of Patch 1.1. More and more reports of people not being able to play Armada 2 coming up as today people are using much more enhanced software and hardware than 5 years ago. The developers of Armada 2 targeted Windows 98 and partly Windows 2000 as plattform.

What is it not?
The patch project does not provide new textures sounds or anything else that is related to change the game experience. Patch 1.2 is fully backwards compatible with Armada 2 Patch 1.1. That means, you will be able to play together with people still using patch 1.1

What does it do?
Some of the most 'popular' bugs patched are:
- 'Sorry, there is not enough memory to continue' - screen
- Crash to desktop right after splash screen related to an stack overflow
- Multiplayer/Online crash with Vista (could fix Wine multiplayer issues too. To be confirmed).
Features
- An enhanced exception catching engine. The new patch makes Armada using madExcept by madshi as new exception handler which allowes you to send us extended debug info to us when a crash occuors on your computer related to Armada which we can fix for new releases of the Patch 1.2 Project.

Is that all?
No, it isn't. The first releases of Patch 1.2 are intended for bug fixing only. Later version will feature full widescreen support and new enhancements for mod developers.

Who should install Patch 1.2?
Everyone playing Star Trek Armada II. Fleet Operations players do not require to install this patch. An enhanced version of that patch is included in Fleet Operations 3.0 final.

This is a great idea i'll try it out, but what's the deal with the Armada Filefront site? They seemed to have nixed the whole FO hosting thing?

They just love to ruin good things they couldn't think of themselves.
Sorry if it sounds too harsh, but they just keep nagging.

I heard there was some odd talk about FO skipping to thier own rules in terms of setting up the MOD. I don't want to get into it, and I am a little bias (loving FO and all) but what seems to be the BIG deal? It's a quality MOD for a game that's found ways to bend some fo the hard coded rules without an SDK. It can't be helped others would flip out a bit.

Filefront is a buisiness and accountable for what files it hosts, it is, in the view of the filefront management, questionable if fleetops and this patch violate the terms and conditions of the EULA. As such, they are taking the safe root, and have removed filefront from their servers after investigating the matter properley for the first time. It is their right to be able to do this, and no one should hold their cautious attitude against them, no matter if their views on the matter differ.

I agree.  However, can they continue to justify not hosting something that is an obvious benefit to the community after the offending file has been removed?

well I like it and it works it is cool and I agree that it is sad that file front is not hosting FOps  :woot:

hi i am trying to download patches of armada 2 but there's only 3.2.7 can anybody upload them onto the site

3.2.7 is the latest version of the fleet operations mod.

The fleet ops team has been silent for the last few years really since they announced work on a new game engine, essentially making a game from the ground up. with the partnership of another group making some sort of game engine editing software. Building an entire game however is a much more in depth and ambitious endeavor than a mod, even one so incredibly polished as fleet ops has always been.

As for original Armada II, the most up to date "official" patch is v1.1. There are a few mods that leave the game mostly stock, and update only graphics (mostly textures) and a few bug fixes. The most noteable is probably the Armada 2 Upgrade Project. They may be found on this site, but most of this site is mods for fleet ops (a mod itself).

I hope this makes sense, I am typing it at 2AM.

PS: fleetops team did do the v1.2 privately developed patch mentioned in the first post of this thread, however the link seems to no longer be working. There is a mod on the forums called Armada 2 Classic I believe, which is very close to full stock A2 with all of the UI and control upgrades of fleetops intact as well. (most noteably bug fixes and ability to select more than 16 units) Though, some of the wireframes are missing, and most build hotkeys do not work in that version, it plays quite nicely.

Hope this was helpful. I will also look on my personal hard drive later to see if I have a copy of the old FO team 1.2 patch for the original.

Happy gaming

Hey guys :)

I'm guessing this part never ended up happening? Or is this patch still being worked on after all these years?

It seems so weird that I can play Armada 1 in HD and other modern resolutions thanks to the A1 fan patch yet I can't do it with it's sequel Armada 2 as the A2 fan patch doesn't include resolution fixes.

I tried to sign up to this forum a year ago to ask about this but somehow got an insta block 5 mins later instead of a activation email lol however signing up today with a different email seems to have worked fine so I'm finally here haha!

Glad I'm finally here too as I asked on msfc and got nothing..
http://www.msfc.com.au/community/index.php?threads/playing-star-trek-armada-2-in-modern-hd-resolutions-eg-1080p.6211/

And on ArmadaFC where others have asked similar questions and I also got next to nothing..
https://www.armadafleetcommand.com/onscreen/armada/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7310&p=79404#p79388

There's a number of wild theories in that thread for forcing 1080p but none of them worked.

So that leaves me with using either the A2 classic mod with Fleet Ops however that cuts out the videos and has some mission bugs, or using the A2 Upgrade project mod for FO which adds the videos back in and has cool graphics however the missions are changed (eg Klingon ships showing up in 1st mission) and super hard AI that seems way different even on easy setting.

So it doesn't seem like there's any option for someone like me who just wants to play the original Armada 2 campaign in HD without anything missing or modified. :(

I think it stopped with development into fo3 but could be wrong

The patch still works. There will be a dialog that complains about memory, just select NO and the game will run.

I never said the patch didn't work?

Armada 2 and the fan patch work fine for me lol. No crashes or bugs.

See the quote in my post about modern HD widescreen resolutions as that is what I'm replying to. I've made it more obvious if that helps. Post quoting text on this forum appears very dark lol.
