Okay, I've done some research and have found out the problem:
"Star Trek Armada appears to have an overflow error when indexing more than 2GB of RAM, so when it's counting up the memory available at 2GB it wraps around like an odometer to some small (possibly negative number)." - From another site that confirms one of the theories that I and a few others have had.
Looks like something that should be fixed in the next patch. :/
