Torpedos as a special weapon??

Now because I'm pretty useless when it comes to making special weapons and as I can't seem to find this one anywhere I've looked I'm trying here. Now my mod has the Achilles in it, and the ship is missing just one item - Its micro torpedo launchers. I wanted to make this a special targetted weapon, and while it will fire out one torpedo thats it. You have to re-target the same enemy vessel to fire another, so my question is this. Is it possible to make a special weapon which fires like a standard torpedo, uses special energy (which I can do), must target an enemy vessel/structure, but once targetted the ship automatically fires these micro torpedos until the energy supply is exhausted or the enemy ship is destroyed??

Any help is appreciated on this other wise my only other option is to go with a micro sized standard torpedo that uses special energy and is fired automatically.

Oh and this is for Armada 1.

As far as I know, this is not possible in A2, so I would assume it is not possible in a1 either. :(

I am wondering if it is possible to use the saveFire commands to cause the vessel to fire a burst of torpedoes (still only approximating the function). Cannon - The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations

Perhaps you might want to give it a go :)

I can't think of any other method that would work in stock A1/A2  :sweatdrop:

EDIT: crap, and unless I'm screwing something stupid up, it appears that saveFire does not have an effect for special weapons. Please let me know if you find otherwise...  :blush:

in Alliances mod for A1 there was a ship which special ability fired a photon torpedo
and in description it said "fires a standard photon torpedo" manually fired

- Nova class i think

the days of my extensive a2 modding are over for quite some time now, but as far as i recall, there is no easy option to achieve that. You could try tricking around with an invisible ultritium-burst-object firing the torps for you, but that would remove the "click to chose targets" part

Well thanks for the replies everyone. I'm going with a very low power hitting but fast reloading micro torpedo. Has a similair effect. I'm still a bit disappointed concerning not being able to do this the way I wanted to but anyway.

what about just adding the line for special energy cost? wouldn't that turn most weapons into specials?

Unfortunately that will not work, there is an issue with special energy cost causing deduction when needTarget is not used (non special weapons do not use needTarget).

EDIT: I'm wrong apparently, it does use it.
