Talon Refit Cloak

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

I was wondering why exactly the talon refit is unable to cloak.  It seems a bit odd that it's the only armed ship the Romulans have that can't cloak, and the ship was able to before it was upgraded.

If it's an issue of their tachyon pings being visible, I think they could be changed to make them not emit the pulses when cloaked.

Gamewise: Balance, presumably.
Storywise: Maybe the ship cannot generate enough power for both? The powercost of a cloaking device isn't exactly cheap.

and emitting sensor pings unreveals your position either wise :)

i think what he meant was that a refit talon can cloak, but when you push cloak it stops sending out pings. then u decloak and it pings more

i prefer to think that there isnt space onboard for both cloak and pings.

Lack of space is likely why it has the tech in a pod atop the ship.

So take a nebula

setscale = 0.1

Problem solved

Wait, what?  How does a nebula's scale in any way relate to a talon refit's pod atop the ship?

Back to my original question, though - would the talon refit being able to cloak (though not emit tachyon pings while cloaked) be completely unbalanced?

Probably. Its good cloak detect, u should be able to see it coming lol

Right now u can simulate this with keeping a normal talon cloaked, then decloaking and refitting, but that costs money, and only works once. If it could recloak again it would be op i think.

The way Tok`ra worded that sounded more like a joke than a serious link.

Lol so many threads about the talon refit being over powered and now a thread that thinks it should have a cloak... :D Oh the forums are soo entertaining sometimes

The earliest decloak in the game and the second best (after the Dominion Cloak-D IMO ^-^) overall ...

  I think it's just fine :D.

Those threads got me thinking about it.:)

If the talon refit could cloak, would it really unbalance things, though?  I mean, it's already weak.  It may have to be changed to not have the advanced cloak (but then, I always thought the talon should have two refits, the other adding the advanced cloak), but the only thing it would add is it would make the talon be able to run away more easily.  A lot of the races' cloak detect is aimed at detecting retreating ships anyway.  And you can already cloak a normal talon, then uncloak and refit it to get a quick ping without your enemy being able to stop you (theoretically) so it being able to recloak wouldn't make it unbalanced in my opinion.  And it makes sense - it is a Romulan ship, after all.  Even the miners can cloak now.

Here is how you give it cloak without making it OP.

1] Give it a personalized cloaking device, making the initial cloak consume all special energy (or almost all energy).
2] Make the pings require special energy (more energy than what would be available after cloaking)
3] Give the talon a high energy recharge rate
4] force a 10 second cool down on the cloaking device
5] force a 5 second cool down on the tachyon ping after de-cloaking (somehow)
6] Reduce the Pulse Disruptor Strength by 40%
7] Reduce shield recharge rate by 30%
8] Bam! Now you have it!  ;)

Hehe that would balance it better but the enemy really needs to see the talon there so he knows to stay away with his cloaked wessels. Or perhaps even declaok and steal it. Muhahahahahaha :D

I'm quite fine with it as it is.
