Altair and Congo classes

These were two rejected designs for the Enterprise-J.

If I can figure out 3dsmax, I will try to build a ship that looks somewhat like the Congo class.

to me they look like the same class, just the top one has had the saucer section separated

The Congo is essentially the Altair plus the saucer of the accepted Enterprise-J model. I think this could be a cool way to arrange a ship that is supposed to look brand new in the Fleet Operations time period. Perhaps what we see along the nacelle pylons are fighter bays? This could be a fighter carrier.

Why the modern designs show a thinner and bigger models, when in fact according to some glances of the future there will be a technology that will allow to have ships bigger in the inside than the outside (like Doctor Who's Tardis) so the new models should be smaller in the outside with a minimalist design.

Of course this is all speculative!
