i was thinking that if you capture an enemy ships your faction would want to pull its bulkheads apart and find out how it ticks, and find weaknesses.
so how about if you capture an enemy ships you can send it to a special station and analyse it which could then give you a bonus against that specific ship type.
eg.
1 feds capture a bird of prey
2 send it to special station
3 spend some resources to analyse it nad find its weaknesses
4 get a small bonus to all of your ships against any other birds of prey for the rest of the game.
the borg would be near impossible to capture so perhaps we could take an idea from an episode of voyager, where the raven (seven of nines parents ship) was ghosting a cube to study it. (grey mode)
opinions?

it's a really good and realistic idea. sadly i think it's a bit complicated and a lot of work.
perhaps if it was a race bonus. capture a ship from a race, get a bonus of 5% against that race. the bonus reduces over time as the enemy counters your counter, eventually stopping at 1.5% and staying there as they can't change everything. only combat ships count.
