DUNE. It's epic, it's classic, it's from 1984.
The story it's about the confrontation between three enemies, the Atreides , the Harkonnen and the Corrino.
And for what ? They are fighting against each others for the planet Arrakis.
This planet is the only source of the "spice" melange, the most important and valuable substance in the universe.
And I wish to make a Dune mod for Fleet Operations.
There should be the Atreides and the Harkonnen and maybe later I could add the Corrino House too :-)
Each House has its own spaceships.
The Atreides House use a large, cylinder type spaceship, the Guild Heighliner (http://i.stack.imgur.com/dvpwu.jpg ) and little fighters or transporters (http://www.collectorsofdune.com/images/ ... ctions.jpg)
The Harkonnen House use a drop-ship http://www.duneinfo.com/Content/images/ ... dune_7.jpg
Of course, in the game, you should have:
the Emperor ship:

the Ornithopter (this is some kind of helicopter):

a carrier with a spice harvester :

So, this is the next mod that I wish to make it.
If you know somewhere a nice 3d model regarding some DUNE models that I could convert into a SOD format it would be nice. Otherwise I could try to build a few stations and ships using MilkShape 3D.

I like Dune, and this is an interesting concept, but I'm not sure you have a whole lot to work off of for a FO mod. Ship-to-ship combat doesn't really happen because of shields. Kinetic and explosive weapons can't get through and lasers destroy both the target and the firer when they hit a shield. There also simply aren't many ships detailed in the books, film, or miniseries.
Starcraft II, on the other hand, would probably be a great game to make a Dune mod for. Land-based Dune RTSs have been done thrice by Westwood as Dune II, Dune 2000, and Emperor: Battle for Dune. They are set in their own continuity and borrow elements from both the books and the 1984 David Lynch film. The last one was released in 2001 though, so there's plenty of room for a new one.
Lastly, I would recommend trying to not base it off of the Lynch film. It took a lot of liberties by doing things like removing all cunning from the Harkonnens and replacing it with cartoonish villainy and removing the Weirding Way and replacing it with the Weirding Module. It's also been done to death; any Dune anything is based on the film. I also personally hated the Lynch film, though that could partially be the cut I watched.
