For those of you who have played Star Wars Battlefront, you will be aware of Galactic Conquest. This mode allows you to have individual battles, but they in turn have a greater effect on the galaxy.
Let's pretend I'm Federation, and the Borg are the opposing side.
There are 30 planets on the Galactic map. I control 15, the Borg control 15. Now, the Borg invade on my planets, and the battle commences as standard game. If I win the battle, I maintain control of the world. If I lose, the Borg gain the world, increasing there total to 16. They then can invade further into my territory upon gaining hold of that 1 world.
I would adore for this sort of mode to be added, it increases pressure to win the game, as well as promoting gameplay over extended periods (potentially weeks).
One problem with Fleet Ops for me is that as soon as the match is over, that's it, there are no consequences.
In terms of terminology and gameplay aspects for Star Trek compared to Star Wars:
The Milky Way is divided into quadrants: Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta
Federation homebase is Earth, located in Alpha. and Romulan in Beta etc.
Capture of the Homeworld results in boosted resources at the start of each match, or similar boost.
Hope you like the idea

where do the klingons go if the rommies get all the beta quad?
and what about the new races yet to appear?
there are more races than quadrants. it should just be done by sector rather than quadrant. and there should be many many unexplored quadrants, for anyone to take.

Thats a fair point. Then yes, we could do it by sectors instead.

You want something like that... pull out a PS2 and play Star Trek Conquest. The only bad part is that you can only have 3 fleets, and 3 different kinds of ships per fleet.

Bit of a pointless comment Gamer, yes I could do that, but I'm suggesting a similar feature for Fleet Ops.

and i should have mentioned before that i like the idea, i was quick to find faults, but i like the option. it should be alongside current gameplay styles of course, a choice. there should be a single player version too, for those people who wanna conquer their AI.
i only fear that it is ambitious and would take a long time.

1st impression: morphing an RTS into a different style game.
2nd impression: Kinda sounds like a 'free-style' campaign feature - and devs do have campaigns on the list.

Suggestion that I might have found the campaign feature they can style upon?

i think this could definitely be useful for a campaign mode, but it would work mp as well
i would like a standard linear story campaign as well. call me old fashioned

Play Starfleet Command in FO? I'd rather play FO in FO... interesting idea, though.

as a seperate gaem away from fleet ops but with the visuals etc of fleet ops in the battles any game star trek based in the star wars empire at war way would be good played a stargate mod for it and it was alot of fun,ur idea has merit but would take alot of work for the genius to pull it off

Well, I like it. could even write a few simple cut scenes of text when one particular faction wins a level like "The borg mercilessly assimilate yet another system on their road to galactic dominance" with a cube rolling by
or
"The federation liberates another star system from tyranny"
And maybe another feature could be added, randomizing the maps on each level.
since my ability to connect and play on line is sporadic at best (seriously, 256k dsl) this could add a new dimension to game play...
