I know you guys have done your basic homework on tlhIngan Hol (i.e. SuS'a' means 'strong wind'; Vutpa' means 'galley'), but I've been looking through the names in the ODF files, and some of them are just plain ridiculous.  My favorite so far translates as "let's go gargle!".  The English names are little better, really.

Given six hours and a Klingon dictionary, I think I could replace a substantial amount of the 387-odd names with more linguistically correct entries.  ^-^

the klingon shipnames are still take from Armada 2. We are working on a better set of shipnames for all races, but its on low Priority. If you want to contribute, feel free to ^-^

Okay.  I'll try and find time to put a list together, including translations.  I'll post it up here.

I think given that in a TNG episode they rendezvoused with the Klingon cruiser "Qu'vat" (which means "screw you"), the ridiculous stock a2 names do match canon quite well, LOL :-P

 But ridiculous names are awesome! Qu'vat was one of the coolest - just had to look up the names of those ships after hearing them onscreen  :sweatdrop:

You reckon these name are good? Check the Klingon names from the 'Distress Call' mod for Bridge Commander. They're much better than the A2 ones.

I think I put them on the Fek'lhr. Many are english mixed-up to look Klingon, but are still recognizable.

Hah! I didn't mean all of them - just some of the more silly "in Klingon" ones are nice :)

just translate the diablo2 (german version) boss monster names into klingon. A good example there was in german "Baumkopfholzfaust" which means translated ... word by word "treeheadwoodfist"
Dont think it could get more ridiculous

Treeheadwoodfist is actually the correct name in the english version ^-^

in german it sounds totally stupid

Haha, but doesn't german put a lot of words together to form new words and phrases?

Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung is "speed limit" for example.  Treeheadwoodfist just sounds like a natural extension of that. :P

Several languages seem to use entire sentences for a single word.

Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz

Is apparently the longest German word.  It's the name of a law that has to do with how beef is labled. :D

Say that 3 times fast.

at least the law itself was shorter written then. On the other side we got laws with hundrets of pages but short names

but maybe the name could be used as klingon shipname. Would prolly work without translating it into klingon ...  :pinch:

Ya know, 'screw you' actually sounds like something Klingons might name a ship.  'Let's go gargle' on the other hand?  Not so much.
