Minor Race - Assimilation or Capture

I think a great feature to add to this game, would be the ability to place "construction vessels" from minor races onto the map so you can capture them and they act as small NPC force, building a base in the way that the A.I. computer does but you can capture their construction vessels and build their technology and add it to your faction in the form of "specialist units" or new "special weapons". If the vessels are captured by the Borg, they become "assimilated units". You can also build a new station called an "Embassy" which will give you access to special technology that you have captured.
A few examples go like this.
- Cardassian
- Unit: Nor Class Starbase (Higher Offensive Value then other Starbases)
- Unit: Cardassian Galor (Special Weapon: Spiral Wave Phaser - Fires a large, powerful phaser blast from the main array)
- Unit: Cardassian Keldon (Special Weapon: Obsidian Order - Allows the Keldon to increase all vessels cloak detection )in its range)
- Bajoran
- Unit: Bajoran Impulse Raider (Special Weapon: "Seat of Your Pants Technology" - Allow the Impulse Raider to regenerate a small amount of hull and shields.
- Special Ability: "Organised Resistance" - Grants your crew a passive buff to your resistance to capture or assimilation.
Etc...
Any additional comments or ideas? If you think its a silly idea, just tell me but I think it could add an additional level of strategy to the game in order to gain these specialist abilities. This is similar to the abilities granted you from minor races in the game Star Trek: Birth of the Federation.

I third this.
I get frustrated every time I see a Ferengi vessel knowing that I can't capture it as I would love a fleet of Maurauders. I still don't know why the Ferengi aren't one of the default races as they are awesome. Having Cardassian, Tholian and other minor races where you could build a couple of ships of each type would be awesome.

Lots of great races that could be added in as NPC factions or, as you suggest, minor recruitable taskforces
Andorians, Vulcans, Cardies, Tholians, Gorn...
If you had to pay or something to get them to join you, that would be cool.
It would be even cooler of they occupied moonsets on the map with minor bases. Players could choose to fight them and gain control of the moonset, or trade with them and gain access to their tech and the moonset.

I like the idea on a basic level. It adds diversity to the gameplay on each map and it might make for a epic form of CTF. I would prefer the feature be optional.

Oh yes, I agree that this should be an optional game mode but it incorperates some of the best features of "Birth of the Federation". An underrated star trek game.
