I just finished reading Book 1 of the Dominion Wars series and I thought I would pass along a map idea for FO.

Badlands Nebula Map Concept:

Have a fairly large map with only 1 start location for the human opponent and only one ship to start.( can be any race and any ship you decide )
You start outside the nebula and choose to enter it. The nubula has an effect on your sensors and targeting and cloak abilities.
Inside the nebula are 1-3 derelict stations, these stations have a repair capability to them that is invisible and short ranged meaning that u have to reach them in order to repair your ship from damages sustained in the nebula.
Along your journey inside the neb you encounter strom phenomenon such as very short ranged lightning strikes on your ship, plasma bursts, temporal phenomenon ( holds your ship in place for a short time and short ranged ).There are other storm possiblities as well.
The nebula is sod-based so you can "mount" weapons on the nebula such as I just described. This is possible and the concept of moutning such weapons on other weapons is demonstrated by Captain Future and his specials. There is no way to leave the nebula on the map except on the extreme edges of the map itself.
Each station can be "gaurded" by pirates such as a Ferengi Marauder that you will have to destroy or drive off in order to repair.

Inside the Badlands you can encounter other ships that can either help you or try to kill you, perhaps some spaced-based life-forms as well specific to the Badlands.

What do you guys think of this?

I also remember watching the TNG episode "The Booby Trap".
The Enterprise stumbles into a trap left over from a previous war with a starship stuck inside sending off a distress signal.

Each booby trap on the map is sod-based meaning all objects in the booby trap are connected to each other and can have different effects to them as you negotiate the map. :D

I've always wanted to see this done in a mod as well.

Yeah, im trying something slightly similar for CF2, aswell as one for the Mutara nebula. Not a lot of progress there though....

I was thinking that the way the map height is now you could build this map with a "specially" built nebula that covers most of the map except the edges and start location is closed off from the edges.Once your ship enters the nebula it presents you with the top view looking down on the scene. You cant go under the nebula and you cant leave the top portion either.
This should be maze-like in that the path you choose in the nebula determines what happens to you and what you see.
You would need a fairly-strong ship to make it through to each way-point such as a Galaxy class or Soveriegn perhaps "specially" equiped for the mission.

Another Map Idea:
Dominion Wormhole
1-2 start locations
2 fronts

1st front consists of you trying to stop the Dominion invasion from there shipyards with limited resources at your disposal.Your stretched reall thin but your able to hold your own sort of like 1-1.DD's and cruisers only.
2nd front consists of the Dominon wormhole. In front of this wormhole your fleet has to manually deploy mines in front of the wormhole to prevent the Dominion from sending in reinforcements faster.Using the 8472 mine classlabel perhaps, allows the "mines to move" as needed.
If you fail to keep the wormhole closed the Dominion is able to send through there bb's and dread's into the system and overwhelm you through superior firepower.
