Well we all know how neat the shuttles wizzing by the stations are. I wonder if its possible to put phasers on them. Not powerful or anything but enough to damage a cruiser. Like a turret, they would automatically attack and enemys in range of the station they fly around. Anyone think this is possible?

I think it would be a good defense against beggining rush attacks and would just add a star trek feel, you should be able to control their movement but maybe control what they attack if its in range. Again, is this possible?

Mh, perhaps it would be possible, but it won't be done. If the shuttles would be used as such a defence platform which can damage cruisers they would be to powerful. a group of science stations than would have the same effect as a defence turret. this would mean that there won't be attacks of starships in the early game. Cause we wan't to keep Fleet Operations a vital and fast to play mod, where you can win with only a few ships, not giant fleets as in a2, such a feature would kill the Fleet Operations philosophy :)
Well, the Ciadan standard stations will be armed, but they have other hard disadvantages for that

Ciadan have low and weak crew, a complex research system and several other unique abilities. It's hard to point out a single point :) but pls continue discussions about the Ciadan in the Ciadan topic

Well, it was only an idea that I had and could be changed, especially when it comes to how powerful they are. Thanx anyway...

My only contribution to this topic is to ask how you set up the shuttles to fly around the stations in 3d Max?
I understand that you "group them" with the station but I want to know how the "animation" is done.Havent done this with Max yet and would like someone to explain it so that I may do this as well with existing models in my "cabinet".

Just the animation = moving shuttles part please.

I thought adding phasers to shuttles would be more trek like. They dont have to be powerful... they could do 1 damage and take 10 seconds to reload if you want. I just dont think it looks right for shuttles to fly around freely while their station is under attack. They could be powerful enough to add a light defense but I'd rather just see em do something more then go joy riding thru space while their station is under attack :D

i think it's funney when there a desolate station that they still fly around "no life signs in the station sir." "no thats coz they are all joy rideing out there!"

Or what about having the Shuttles "flee" into the Station (or away from it), as soon as the station is attacked. That would be realistic and it would not change anything about the balance.

You have to be rather brave, daring to fight with a light shuttle (much weaker than the Danube-class runabouts) against a serious threat. :D
