Brilliant ideas as usual Nat, especially adding the Naussicans, Reman Rebels to the potential pact and The Tholians becoming a race by themselves!
I just had a thought, what about Delta quadrant Species?
Devore, Kazon, Hirogen, Krenim, Malon, Talaxian, Voth and Vidiian to name a few
Hirogen especially have a place in fleet ops, at the very least an NPC on a delta quadrant map
personally with the limited ships shown on Voyager, thats probably the limit most of these races have but i thought id mention them to see if anyone else had any insight, maybe one or two could join FO's Typhon pact? (bit of a stretch but...)
I believe variety fuels replayability, the more stuff to try out the more someone will play, which is why i like FO so much!

I think it would be cool to have a map set called "Raiders" Or "Pirates" one or more for each quadrant, each would have an NPC that would randomly spawn/respawn a raiding party or small fleet and attack small groups or lone ships as you play your skirmish, i have a few suggestions regarding this idea
Alpha Quadrant -Dotted with federation and maybe cardassian outposts
The raiders could be - Nausiccans or at a stretch the Marquis
Beta Quadrant- Klingon and Romulan outposts
raiders - Orions or Gorn
Gamma - Dominion Outposts
Raiders- Im not sure, only thing i could suggest is rogue Jem'Har Dar, but id rather not have ships from set races as the raiders, any thoughts?
Delta - No outposts (or maybe a capturable Caretakers array where u can transport ships around the map)

It's a curious idea, although that wouldn't have to be a map type of it's own. Instant Action/Multiplayer maps already support having AI factions built into the map, it's just that we don't have the NPC factions to place in the maps.
Still, I've always liked the idea of having NPC faction(s) in maps, which could behave differently depending on the map, with some being pirates, others could be new alien races that could grant you special technology, etc.
Also, you say the Delta Quadrant wouldn't have any outposts, but I think the Borg want a word with you.
Speaking of outposts, what exactly would be the purpose of these outposts? Are they for the player to play as? Enemy AIs that also attack players? Friendly/neutral forces? Outposts to be captured?

At the least i thought the outposts could just look nice, lol, capturing them would be better for gameplay, in an ideal world you could ally yourselves with them for a bonus, or get a bounty for each raider you destroy, which would be higher the more outpost your allied with or have captured.
As for the delta quadrant, borg outposts didnt fit with my idea, mainly because if they detected a skirmish between two unassimilated species, they would probably send a cube or 2 to take advantage. Devore outposts if possible would be better, as they are a established government, or talaxians, being a probable ally of the federation would also make them a possibility.
so two options for the outposts -

2. capture and use as own station

So would the player be one of the standard races for this mode? If so, why not make the entire thing customizable?
So you would choose your race, and then you could select:
Quadrant - this would control the factions of generated outposts
Choices: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta
Raiders - this would set the raiding faction
Choices: Kezon, Rouge Jem' Hadar, Minor Klingon warlord, Mar'quis, Gorn
Then you could also choose to ally yourself with the raiders, the outposts, or neither while in-game. The only thing I can't figure out is what the objective would be if you allied with the outposts... would you have to take out some sort of hidden base?
Also, there should be two+ outpost factions per quadrant, which would force the player to ally with only one set.

Great thoughts, i really like the two factions of raiders idea.
i was thinking this as either an online multiplayer map or offline skirmish vs AI, I myself don't play online, but i can see how this would be a fun game with friends, so u could almost play like a cold war type game, building up your forces as the raiders attack your opponent.
I had always thought there would be two sets of AI, the outposts and the raiders, but that could change to be several different scenarios, indigenous force and invaders, minor power and pirates and warlord vs government

I am new to this forum but not to ST Armada 1 or 2 or Fleet ops. I was just getting comfortable modding the STA2 the old school way and downloaded the big Dominion Expansion, all of the modded ships/stations, and maps I could find before they were no longer available. I even finally figured out how to make the AI into a merciless version and get derelict ships randomly placed around my customized maps. I never got into creating graphics skins for the ships but was grateful for all of the fantastic and seemingly hard work put into creating those components uploaded to file front.
Then you guys came out with the fleet ops masterpiece! My son also started playing Fleet Ops. a few years back when he located a copy of STA 2 disc at a used book and software store. I have played on all of the maps. Love the merciless AI on the top setting, love the fantastic graphics, gameplay is great too. The game is fantastic, although I haven't learned how to mod it yet (I am worried about screwing it up) and cannot find any cool ships, etc. from master modders to add anyway. I miss the other races and new ships, stations, etc. that would pop up from time to time on file front. Kudos to you guys for bringing this up I agree with the ideas brought up here. Would love a couple of the prior races or new ST races to bring into this game! Does anyone have or Is anyone working on a version higher than the 3.2.7 with your suggestions in it ?
