Okay, I like to play as borg, and this is what I do with them.

First of all, go about building a base. Resource minners, basic yard, 1st Research, etc. Now, once you get your first yard, build a full fleet of Interceptors. That's one full construction Que plus 6. The first tech you need to research is the transwarp for the interceptor. Once you get the full fleet, assighn it a fleet number, I usually use number 1. This is now your fast attack/deffense fleet. Very nice for "poking" other people and defending against surprise attacks.

During all this, you should be looking for more moons to mine.

Eh, looks like someone wants to play me on FO...I'll add more to this latter.

FINALLY gonna get back to this...

ANyway, while your building your interceptor fleet and getting that, be building up your base. I recommend a ring of about 6 Incubators around your main Assimilation Matrix. This'll generate plenty of crew and act as a sort of shield for your HQ. Then on the outside of this ring, put a layer of Phaser Relay's out. These are VERY nice defense stations, probably the best in the game. Use'em. Frequently.

Things to be sure to Reasearch:

Tachyon Detection Grid
Sphere Regeneration
Holding Beam
ALL Ship Upgrades (shields, life support, weapons)
Command Cube Fussion

You won't get all that research done quick, so don't just sit there while you do that. Build another Basic Shipyard and get to work on a Sphere Fleet. Once again, 1 full Yard Que plus 6 more Ships. This is like a support fleet, assigned to number 2. You'll send it in conjunction with Cubes or as a raiding party against a lightly defended target. MAKE SURE you have Regeneration for them and it's set to Auto Use in the AI Menu.

Now depending on what race(s) you're fighting, here's what you should do for Capital Ships (IE Cubes and stuff from the heavy yard)

Noxter: Command Cubes. Lots of them. Get 2 heavy yards and have one of them pump out Cubes and the other Diamonds. Use a fleet of these with SPhere and Interceptor Support and you can't go wrong. This formation will work against any race, but it has zero assimilation ability so there's better combinations for the other races.

Romulan: Fleets of Cubes with the HOlding beam. Go through Romies like tissue paper. Dont' forget Spheres for close in support and a command cube or two for those annoying bigger ships couldn't hurt as well. Set the Holding Beam to Auto and place bet's with your teammates about how fast you can get a full operational Romulan Tech Tree.

Feds/Klinks: You want a well balanced fleet for these guys. Mixes of Cubes and Command Cubes. Heavy a slightly higher offense against Klinks because they're ships are more heavily armed and their crew is tougher so assimilating them is harder.

Other Borg: All offense. Don't even bother trying to assimilate them. Too many crew members per ship that are too strong. Just Command Cubes and Spheres.

Another interesting tactic is to use Assimilators on heavy traffic areas. Make a fleet of them and assign it an unused number (Ctrl+1-9) and park it somewhere where there's alot of traffic. Give them some Spheres or Interceptors for support though. Their Auto Assimilate Beam will very quickly drain the crews of alot of ships doing 3 things for you: 1. Adding crew to your pool which is VERY nice for long games; 2. Providing alot of Derelicts for you to capture and 3. Costing your enemies Ships or at the very least hampered efficency do to crew loss. Assiliators also work good in conjunction with Cubes. Send in the Auto Assilitaor equiped ships to sofen up crew intensive Ships and Stations, then send in the cubes to Finish the job.

Transwarp Hub: This is an essential item. MUST have this. Borg ships are rather slow and with 3 of those gates operational, you can get all of your fleets anywhere on the map in a heartbeat.

When using it: DO NOT make a gate right into the enemies base. They'll send every ship right back at you. Make the gate a ways outside it and travel in that way. Make sure you have some defenses around your Hub just in case though. An Assimilation matrix and some Phaser Relays work nice for that. The gates last forever until you shut them off, so feel free to open an unused gate up inside your ally's base so you can defend them and they can defend you easy. Also makes for a nice escape route for them if their base get's overwhelmed.

All for now, more latter.

I own everything when I do this. The AI just can't handle it and Humans have lots of trouble with it. My fleets set up like that whipped the floor with a superior number of ships that weren't organized into fleets and had random numbers of random ships.

One thing you forgot opening a portal in there base is the best offenceand this is why;

1 build 3 bases around a spare portal away from main base, ring all buildings with any defence platform you can, leaving very little room at the portal for ship movement.

2plant cubes and assimilatores there as well as many as you can.

and very soon you now have hundreds of ships at your disposal to do with as you please. and yes this works i nailed 3 of my frinds with it hard core. :)

That's a risky endeavor and it takes alot more time. If they have a fleet that can overwhelm your defenses, you just helped kill yourself.

and to save credits, open a transwarp to allys base, one near enemies, and the other to another ally if you need to. Then, no matter what species, they can use it for fast trasnportation to and from battlefield. Works great from a base in secluded areas.
