Building One Ship Class

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Apparently I am the "worst player ever" because I usually build only excelsior-ii's when I play as fed.   go for them since they are cheap and effective.  Unless I have a ton of extra resources I don't bother with Sovereigns or Defiants or Akiras or anything that requires extra research.

I played two games tonight on random races and ended up as Feds both time.  The first time I lost vs someone playing Romulans however the second time was a ffa and I won manly due to controlling half the moons on the map and having 6 shipyards pumping out excelsior-ii's at once.

What's everyones thought on this?  It seems smart to me and in my defense probably makes me easier to kill.

It does make you easier to kill... which isn't a defense against the "worst player ever"  :whistling: : I think mixing in some remores would help (killing enemy shields) as well as others such as defiants and some other support... just experiment more. However, before you state that your strat works just fine as you still beat Mark and me, neither of us were exactly "concentrating" on you if you may recall (I was roasting Mark's mining with a back and forth while you built up....then you roasted my mining.... and then when I destroyed part of your fleet I rebuilt a teeny bit only to be hit by Mark, then you, then Mark yet again). I guess you must have taken out Mark while he was destroying your base.

Still, complaining about Generix support refit all the time hardly makes someone like your strat or reflect well on you.  I didn't beat you earlier because of generix... but because I mixed Cehlear, Norexan, Tavara, Leahval, AND Generix support refit in my fleets. You only built 80 Excelsior II (and towards the end 4 sabres) while harrassing with the warp in.

Yeah it just kind of irks me that the only reason I won that game was I had 7 dilithium moons and 7 tri moons fully mined and no one attacked me the whole game until the very end.  So of course I had a massive fleet built up but because I chose to build one cheap effective class I am called the worst player ever.

the way i look at it is that alot of different ships have different special abilities.  why not utilize all of those abilities instead of just going with one.  some ships last longer in fights than others due to those abilities and some deliver more damage etc.  Im also learning strategy in this game.  unforetunately I have been having to do instant actions since i can never find anyone online to do multiplayer against.  but its all good.  each mission i learn something and last a little longer than before.  But ill never be ble to figure out how people build armies so fast or get resources so fast.  Well maybe one of these days i will  :D

it does not make you the worst player ever. however it does make your fleet shallow, and you dont get to use any of the other special weapons.

Basically it's a careful balance of expansion vs protecting those assets.
AI doesn't really teach much in that regard unfortunately...

Honestly, I found that for an Excelsior heavy fleet, a Remore, a pair of Defiants, and a pair of Sovereigns for every  10 Excelsior or so (The Remore to help with weapon use, the Defiants to disable weapons on things like Tavara and starbases, and the Sovereigns to prevent runners from pulling you out of formation or into defensive emplacements) makes for excellent and rapid base obliteration and general combat.

Not sure if that layout would be to your taste, and I admit, sometimes it's great fun to just dump 2 fleets of Sovereigns into a base, and then hit them with a wave of Excelsior-class ships while they are focused on killing the swarm of USS Shield-Pigs.

to be fair i couldnt herass your moons because i was keeping the borg away from me, when you look at it i had the worst place ever, inbetween the both of you so i couldnt expand for more moons as easily as you could of i would of built a way bigger fleet and whooped those excels ares using weapon disablers and sheild rechargers...

excelsiorII is a really nice ship...especially with ACS torps and artillary range.
And this remembers me to old old ...Armada 2 times with mass of sovis

But you will never have a chance against tactics except pumping ships and don't use special weapons.
It's to easy to outmaneuver you with fast ships
