Construction ships and technology capturing, how does it wor
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Hi,
I have played the game now for several hours and had lots of fun with it.
But there is one thing I couldn’t find out.
How does the technology capture capability work?
Which units are affected? Ships, Yards, Research Stations?
Do I have to capture the unit first and the extract the technology or can I capture technologies while the unit is still under enemy control?
I tried several things but it never worked.
Can someone help please?

Mix-tech works like this: you have to capture an enemy construction ship, than hit the "capture technology" button, then you can build an experimental yard from where you can build ships. Those ships are improved versions of the ships you can already build and in most cases you can build a new type of ship. For borg, things are a bit diferent: you can build an adaptation matrix and then you can add a adaptation module for the ships you build so that your ships take less damage from the race you have adaptor for. Good luck.

To elaborate slightly:
If you start with a teammate who is another race to yourself you can build a special yard straight away with your race's construction ship. When you do so, you must research the "Analyse Alien Technology" button (I believe it's called) in order to unlock the ability to actually construct the improved ships granted to you by each race's technology, bare in mind that the research costs a fair haul and takes approx. 5 minutes to research on standard game-speed.
However if you capture an enemy construction ship, you do as pointed out, you click the "Capture Technology" button (or whatever you call it) and that will then give you the option to create the mixed-tech yard for said captured race from the captured construction ships build menu.
Simple? I hope so.

Thanks for the advise. It worked.
I learned that it is hard to capture an enemy construction ship though.
They are hard to find, blow up easily and it is difficult to bring them back to home base.
You need at least 2 capital ships to knock down the shields fast and have enough crew to beam aboard and make the capture. 3 – 4 are to much and you blow it up before you can board it.
But then you need a whole task force of 10 or more to secure the area during capture and bring it back home safely depending on the threat situation and the map.
But it all adds a lot of depth to game play.
Having it right from the start is a more comfortable way.

For me capture rech does not work I've captured a dominion const ship, and when I hit the tech capture button it does not unlock the mix-tech shipyard.

Are you building the mixed tech yard with the captured construction ship? Remember you can only build the yard with the actual captured construction ship. The yards that your own construction ship can build are only highlighted if you have an ally on the map who is of that racefirewarrior1705 wrote:For me capture rech does not work I've captured a dominion const ship, and when I hit the tech capture button it does not unlock the mix-tech shipyard.
