I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that your statement about it being against canon is incorrect. For something to go against canon, there has to be something canon to go against, and as it's never been stated one way or the other in the show, how can this be against canon?

What you meant is that it goes against common sense (and THAT, I agree with).

However, balance > realism. I'm happy with how it is. In the show you never saw many in a fleet anyway.

I still find it a bit irritating that a defiant is much stronger while slower than an intrepid (remember voyager fighting the tactical cube?). I would rather like to have them of similar strength, another frigatte could substitute the definant then. However, that's just personal taste. The FO staff are doing a great job.

Can I just point out how much Voy ruined my knowledge of Starfleet and the Borg? Remember how a Galaxy class had large issues against a CUBE, then Voy came and did whatever the heck they wanted with one? And PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Voyager/Intrepid a science/exploration ship, whereas the Defiant is a WARSHIP? I don't think that the Defiant should be NEARLY as powerful as an intrepid. If I remember correctly, someone in DS9 said that the Defiant was overpowered for it's size...heck, it blew the crap out of TONS of ships in the Dom wars....and now you're saying that it should be less powerful than an exploration vessel?

The Defiant was meant to be a quick, but powerful solution to combat situations. If we're going to go realistic, it should take VERY little time, and be pretty powerful. If we're going balanced, I think it should still be a short build time (Considering it's size) and scale down it's offensiveness (In relation to the TV shows).

Of course...we could just give it an enormous amount of firepower, with almost no build time

the whole point of the defiant is this, but the biggest punch in the smallest package, strip away the excess starship and put in all the weapons you can fit, thats why its sickbay isnt very elaborete and is onl y ment to keep alive till they can get to a starbase, as shown in ds9 it is a ship of war, howver a sovy can tototally take it, soverigns need better attack

fed balancing and ship powers do need a bit of "reconsideration"

Considering it's build cost, build time, tech level and level up's the Defiant seems to be decently balanced.

starfleet chassis got a bit more expensive for now and their formula changed for technology benefit equotations (slightly increasing the costs of all federation vessels, but very slightly). I will take a closer look on the Federation in the next days :shifty:

the more i test the defiant class, the more i think this ship is ok as it is. Its maybe not very realistc, but its a ship that makes sure that ur enemy cant fire back till some point ... unpayable advantage.

that's all well and good, but if you increase the cost to build starfleet ships it will be harder to spam with them (good), but because spamming is really the only way to win as starfleet, making it harder to spam with them will make them a much weaker race (bad)

i dont realy spam with them, i used to build intrepids, but now i build a mixed fleet until i get to akiras, then i build akiras, and then some excelsiors till i can get sovys, and i do well with that, i think they are a bit weak in the begging.

i have this question for the fleet ops team, could we please have miranda 2s cost no stars and be in the normal shipyard that akiras are in, i love them so much and it would be so awsome, i just love there values, a bit higher then akiras, but lower thern excelsior, and there blockadw thing can help them pakc a punch, along with there awsome defense, they have got to be probably my favorite ship at this point

Sorry...just wanted to point out that I meant that an Intrepid shouldn't be nearly as powerful as a defiant...lol. Was reading my own post and got pretty confuddled...lol.

As a side note, I LOVE the defiant that gets mixed with the Klingons...I LOVE the quantom torpedoes and mines, lol :D

Speaking of Defiant Mixed-Tech, why did you choose the Defiant to get Romulan cloaks? Not complaining, just curious.
posted on January 10th, 2009, 7:30 am
well i dont know, but i would assume it is because of DS9 where the romulans lend the defiant a cloak so that they can go into dominian territory undetected with a romulan official of course to watch over it

But why the Defiant Class specifically; why not the Excelsior-II or Saber or something?
