does anyone know how to create a different variant of an existing ship? :D

heres what im trying to do. im trying to create different variants of certain ships in fleetops that i can use alongside the existing models. for example an uprated sovie, or a sensor refit nebula. ^_^ im not trying to mod any textures or create a different model alltogether, basically the only thing i want different is the odf.

i've tried to simply copy the odfs, sods and simply rename them but this just causes the game to crash. and yes i have added them to the tecktrees and shipyards. :blink:

would appreciate any help :) thnx

er....plz help

i would proberley say whaen he build the ship or when he click build on the shipyard and it tries to showthe ship and dies a horrible death, by slamming its self in to the windows desktop never to be seen again.

Try

include "whatever.odf"

Then, just put in what you want changed. If you wanted another phaser, just put weapon_X (X being the num of weapon) and the odf and the hardpoints. look at other odf's 4 examples. For Example, the Enterprise would look like:

include "fedsoverign.odf"

Special sounds-

orders
commandawknowledge = "picardawknowledge.wav"

For special costs-

dilithiumCost = 750
metalCost = 1000
crewcost = 750
officerCost = 1

etc.

Works for me.

Fleetops is very, very sensitive about modyfying files. I tried to give the galaxy a tractor beam once, and failed. However, I did manage to put 10 quantum torpedo launchers on a scout to see what would happen. It was fun.

lol a tractor failed, but then quantoms worked? lol you got to send me a picture of that scout firing!

a tractor beam is pretty easy to do. either copy and paste line from the ferengi scav(this wont have a button :( ), or make the klingons combat tractor beam free tech by editing the tech tree odf then plant the cobat beam on to whatever ship/station you want it on(this one has a button and disables target engines :devil: )

i've tried doing that but it won't include the additional weapon/sensor loadouts i put in there. also you can't build it seperatly you have to start off with it (as everyone knows the refits are always built after the oringinal model :sweatdrop:

Here. As you can see, many a saber died from relentless torpedo fire.... FROM SCOUTS LOL!!!!

Oh, I forgot about the scavenger. Oops.

Well, I'm not sure how I can help you. I've never had many problems with small modifications... But I always believed that you influde the base odf and put in your changes... Maybe "include soverign.odf" and copy all of the info and change what you want. Maybe it wants all info. Who knows?

tried it this way as well... loads up the game but you cant build any of the changed ships just the originals :cry: ah well it seemed like a nice idea to pass the time until v3 comes out :mellow:

You can USE your ship, but not build it. If you modyfy the base federation odf, in the special or other directory, you can say what things you start with at the beginning, ie 1 starbase, 2 const. ships, 1 scout. If you change the odf to the scout to the ship you made, you should be able to use it. If the game loads, it means one of 2 things.

1. The game ignored what you did.
2. It worked

Remember if you make odf changes nothing changes until you reload the game.

so you can only change what you already start with and not actually add anything?? :( oh man i hope v3 is a lot easier to mod than this :blink:
