Dominion too Powerful

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

the ai does use dilithium and tritanium, supply is all it gets for free.

the harder the ai difficulty you pick, the cheaper its costs. it doesn't get ships for free, just cheaper.

Killing the mining most likely slows them down because they have to rebuild it before they can continue to the next thing on the list, they can't choose to delay it like a human can.

Which is exactly what I do with 'em :) Still, it can get a bit hectic to do that when there's 40 ships a side on the line, with 6 - 8 Serkas bombarding your fleet, 2 Tavaras and 10 Norexans blasting massive damage all over the place, and you're trying to make sure your Akiras survive to Officer ranks!

I was going to say that I notice a drop in ship production from the AI if I take out their mining moons so they must take that into consideration.

Serkas are fucking annoying as hell. I am somewhat OCD about defending my stuff. More often than not in a game at some point a Serkas will start bombing one of my mining stations or a forward ship yard and although I know in my mind I would just be better off letting it get destroyed and just rebuild it later I end up moving my fleet from one side of the freaking map to the other side to destroy one freaking ship. As I mentioned I am somewhat OCD about defending my stuff. :D

It's really annoying because even if I put a turret or two there they seem to find an angle that is outside of their reach. :hmmm:

you could try keeping back a base defense team of a few ships, rather than needing to move a whole fleet

I tried that but when I have a fleet I have to make it 30 ships so if fills out my screen when I select it or it really bugs me. Having a third of my entire fleet sitting around for something that may or may not happen is just really wasteful. Its especially bad since once I get the tech I don't build anything accept Defiants. So even thought its annoying to move ships across the map its less annoying than having an 30 mighty Defiants sitting around doing nothing. Yes I know its weird and that is one of the reasons I don't do MP. Whoever was on my side would end up bald from pulling their hair out.

Ai merci is fun. esp playing multiple merci. I was able to defeat 3 Fed merci's as Klingons in a previous patch. I can't recall if i've done it since they acquired the teuto.

I agree, the Romulan ai Merci is exceedingly more difficult than Dominion.

I think I was record of being able to defeat 3 fed merci, 2 dom merci, 1 rom merci, 1 klingon mercy. for borg, i have a feeling i could defeat at least 2 merci, because 1 merci borg is actually also pretty easy - they dont build cubes/diamonds a whole lot i though?

All this is playing as klingons, and map choice absolutely matters. I can't do the above on any old map. it matters

Blue amber is the best ai stomping map there is. And other big one's, just can't remember all the names.

In blue amber, you give 3 fed merci on same team, and it seems like 1 lags behind and is never as strong, where as others take lead.

Not sure what I can say to help, maybe didnt read this detailed enough..... the easiest map to beat two dom merci is the long horizontal one with 2 wormholes, and 4 moon pairs right around each other. you can expand fast, boon your fleet...

did you mention playing as klinks? anyways. playing as feds or klinks, build additional constructors. 4-5 constructors is ideal. on maps with a high concentration of moon pairs. it is the only way to match ai fleet production.

do not bother with the weak 1st yard vessels. total waste. do not build brels for instance, only a handful of sabers and move on. akiras - start there and move up. kvorts kbeajqs vorcha and qawduj to start. sangs wont do a thing.

construct from star base: 4 miners, 1 constructor, 4 miners, 1 constructors miners 30+ and an extra constructor soomewhere in the mix if you can manage to use it while coordinating your fleets.

on blue amber for example. the strongest starting position is you on the bottom, farthest right corner. with the ai on the uppermost 3 across the top, one directly above you, and 2 farthest left... i think, there is one that is sort of centered in the middle of the map... dont give ai that spot. or if 2 ai merci, go to top far left... maybe

turtle mining stations. i think i get 3 di, and 2 tri moons going before i build my first yard... is the timing i had down for it im pretty sure. then, you expand upwards. and build at that point, 2 yards, and 1 di and 1 tri moon. when you have everything set up, send 3/5 constructors down and outwards along the bottom taking the moons all along there. give each moon on the map at least 2 klingon turrets, or 3 to be safer.

build fleets as such for example: fleet 1 10 mix of kvorts kbeajqs was good for a first incision of ai station, and build and deploy up 15. when you get more, create fleets 1 + 2. these will be your bulk fleet, as fleets actually fleet 1 is always my scouts, for me it would be fleets 2-3 but that doesnt matter. so your two main fleets are those that will rank for the game. once these fill, create fleets 4-5. they'll rank too of course. so then cycle these. fill fleets 2-3 as offensive. 4-5 stay back defensive. when fleets 1-2 become weakened, send them back to repair/defense as fleets 4-5 move in to offensive role. and just cycle back and forth. eventually, create an additional fleet to add into offensive. constantly spam from 8-9 nine yards. 4 small yards, 3-4 battle yards, 2 large yards or so.

eventually, a 7th fleet might appear of vets or highly highly ranked vessels. this is barricade fleet between offensive and defensive fleets. if you iniitiate an assault for instance, command fleets 2-3 7 to go offensive, with 4-5 staying slightly behind close to turret wall. use 2-3-7 collectively to smash through closest most ai moon and obliterate it fleet 7 absorbs responding ai fleets, and send 2-3 in to attack deeper ai moons and stations. if you get the spread right, ai starting locations will be disrupted and be sending ships everywhere and you can pick them off at your leisure.

you will always sustain losses

when you have targeted a weakening ai merci opponent, and got it down to the basics, send in all fleets to make a quick finish and eliminatiion. then retreat and repair them all. dont go.. oh my fleet just eradicated red ai merciless, now time to go with momentum and try taking on yellow. i think almost always regroup.
