Is the FO Excelsior the final version or a placeholder?

It's a pretty good model, i cant see why it would need to be replaced...

I never said it wasn't good, it just isn't nearly as good as some other FO ships, like the Descent or Galaxy (which isn't even the final, and is still better than the Excelsior).

nothing in F.O. is final   that's the beauty of beta or fan made persistently developed modifications.

Yeah I think currently Excelsior looks great! but it always has been one of my favorites so i'm partial. I think that the Veteran Excelsior should be the Enterprise B / Lakota refit. But that is for another thread  :innocent:

Maybe it's just me, but i'd like to see the team make FO style (as in ships that look like the excelsior II or the remore) ships out of canon designs. Would help a lot with consistency and such.

But Trek ships are not consistant in appearance...

the colors(shade of white) seem to change in every ship.

True, but who said that the FO team couldn't make a consistent style for the federation? you see a consistent style on the borg, romulans, dominion...

I'd prefer Federation ships being less consistant than other races. Starfleets 'style' changes constantly, a lot more than other empires.

Well... the Excelsior could use some more detail... I've seen Armada 1 models with major details it doesn't have...

Same her

I agree, I use a replacement because of the shortage of detail (especially when compared to the Descent).

Excelsior has a smooth engineering section and saucer, with the exception of the ridges in the neck it has relatively few 'bumps'. The nacelles are long and sweeping. this is excelsior's style... plus it always had a unique blue-ish tint. I think it looks great.

But the problem is that the textures look rather "gray and foggy" right now whereas the original design didn't look like that.
