Fraps Video problem

Okay, so a few days ago I recorded my first replays and I'm still figuring out the technical stuff, but one thing's got me puzzled.

I took what looked like the easy option and set the game to 1280x720, then recorded in full size with fraps.  But when the videos came out, they were smaller.  The video says it's 1280x720 but it has a black border all around.

The reason I didn't catch this right away is because one of them isn't this way.  My second video came out perfectly even though the settings were exactly the same.  Have any other commentators run into a problem like this?

is this the fraps output versions that are coming out with borders?

i remember if i used sony vegas wmv export that i ended up with black borders on the final wmv file for some reason. despite the input being 1280x720 and the output being the same.

when i ran fleetops at full screen at 1280x720 with fraps recording it came out fine. the screen isnt perfectly 16:9 ratio, so it looked a bit squashed on my screen, but the video file had the correct dimensions.

Yes this is fraps.  I think now it may have something to do with starting fraps and fleet ops, then changing the settings.  I'm going to try fixing the settings, then closing both programs and restarting them before I record.  Hopefully that'll work.
