Great work BUT.....
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Sorry I have not searched the Forums, I am a bit ignorant, but I wish the collision on mining vessels would be resolved vs buildings. Also I'm no programmer but why does the direct mining orders make the 'mining vessel run into EVERYTHING in its way?!?!? Vs just a simple right click 'then when they get there click there command/mining?
Also, Dominion AI kicks my ass most every time, (OP OP!!! :p) maybe I just sux? It would be neat to be able to shut off certain 'special abilities' like other games that you can right click them and it will 'auto cast' as they are selected... (does that make sense vs manual and auto?)(WarIII) Tho again I don't program. I'm nearly a networker.. :p..
I have more to say in a constructive way but either way I think these improvements would be great!!
At last tho not the least of it all.. even tho it is the last of my "complaining".... GREAT JOBS GUYS!!!! Good work either way! I'm not bitching on the bad side, nearly trying to be constructive ... again.
Psian- Again great work guys!

welcome to the forums! constructive criticism is always welcome
we are working on the ship movement. but ship physics are largely unchanged from armada and hard to change/improve.
yes, autocast is currently not possible but indeed on our ideas list. that is a feature we'd like to have in fleet operations too sooner or later.

I feel that before shutting of special abilities for ai, the ai would have to be re-written so they do t cheat
posted on September 27th, 2010, 8:12 am
So they dont cheat? ... Yea it is interesting to see the AI mine 1/5 of what you do and still kick your ass
Thank you for your invite Coka! That's great, I love to hear improvement, I'm sure I'm not the only one! Again keep up the good work!
Thanks!!!

ai gets to build stuff for dirt cheap prices. they dont really need much mining, the mining is there just for u to kill.

Just be thankful the AI Dominion isn't capable of getting the Dreadnought... especially not the veteran one. That would be a bitch!

yep, at the moment the AI is implemented for you to enjoy long games or to have a massive slaughter or whatever suites you It's not implemented to offer the same game experience as a multiplayer game would. Comparable to how single player campaigns in RTS games work.
There might be a "player like" AI in the future, but thats a topic we havent touched much yet. The best multiplayer experience can always be achieved by joining the FO community online.
Nuke them to hell! >:D

Yea but can't the AI be "taught" to mine beneficently and get and slight bonus? To a point I understand why, but damn!! They get a hella bonus in a few way. btw, when I do a "k" command, can't you tell the ships to move on after running into a building or space 'field' of sort after X amount of time, and/or if its on a "k/kill command" to move on after it has been in once location for X amount of time?!?! to re-issue that command? typically for me if I see a ship ramming a building or space field and just press 'k' again it will resume a reasonable kill path.....

Damnit I hate when I'm trying to Teleport over to a station/ship (To take it over) and I believe there shields come back up online err sumtin :p tho they don't stand a chance as that's why Im' trying to take over the unit/building.... THUS why I'm transporting, and my units nuke them anyways :p....

You can always set your units to green alert there

True, but then my dumbass forgets to turn it back to red.. and I do use the 10-key... I need my cloak keys back too! <3
I could always set the AI to medium and watch it poke around aimlessly to.

I just tell most to attack other things while a few hit the target, then transport with all of them (a seperate cloaked fleet could be a good sub for the last part).
Do the shields actually come back on while transporting? Transport alway interrupts their recovery when I do it.

transporting to a ship keeps its shields down i believe.
if the transport stops, it takes a few seconds before shield regen kicks in.

Thats just the thing I thought so too... But I'll have a group of oh hell what a dozen or more? and be attacking like Tyler (I think who was speaking of this) says the shields "should" be interrupted? But then while 12+ of my ships are transporting they will just all of a sudden blow the hell out of it... DOH!
I have most my units set to 9-6-3/or 2 (10-key) Which I realize what I'm doing I've been playing both editions of the game for years...
OH look if I scroll down I can see the Forum while typing... sorry Nub here...
So is there an inf/read-,me on how the AI acts? how its "collects" resources; how stations are built at full str/capacity (Station and/or ex:Klingon general warbird/etc station?)

Well, if you want there is this page
Artificial Intelligence - The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations
However, that won't describe why the AI builds stations the way it does - that's a quirk to allow the AI similar capabilities to a human player (aka, building Collective Uplinks as shipyards, building mining nodes etc). The AI will not (unless a bug) build ranked ships incidentally

Right I figured as much, but again I'm not a programmer so I hope that its the easy fix rather QUICK fix.. (BUTT... If a Ai can be configured to use the upgrade depending on attack/defense/resources on a somewhat simplistic scale I think it would make at least 'a good fix for - me happy) :p.....
