Doca, Optec. Have you though about expanding Flops for EaW?? You know. Brand new game engine. New styles of combat. No resources to worry about. You might want to have a look into seeing what you might be able to do when the games released. Theres a few people who have projects in mind already and its not for release for at least 6 months.
(just something to think about for future endeavours).

Yep, i already saw some screenshots of this game and, yay, they look realy stunning makes me jealous cause i'm quite sure that even with the best modding abilities you won't get THAT out of the aramda II engine
I will deffinitely play EaW.
But i think Fleet Operations will stay on ArmadaII We promised to finish this project and i think with the Armada II Version of Fleet Operations we will be busy for quite some time
Maybe after this project, but i think then we want to try to build something completely from sketch.
I already read about many mod projects for EaW and I'm really looking forward in whats coming out with them. If the game has good modding capabilities i may do some private "put an fo model in eaw" mini mods after the v3 release but my main concentration is ArmadaII: Fleet Operations ^_^

I dont' know Optec. Theres been talk of a proposed Trek based project for EaW, but I think its not going to get past the "idea" phase. Just wondered if you or Doca had even considered it. Perhaps a new project when the game comes out might be on the cards.

more important is how far the game will be moddable. as ground battles are in game in very rare seen, the question is, can they be disabled for a star trek mod whoever made it. ground battles are a nice feature for star wars, but i don't think they are for star trek. i haven't found anything about how the game can be modded - is there some info on the web about it?

Well many games have good engines for ST mods like Homeworld2 and my personal favorite Hegemonia: The Solon heritage. Someone should really take a look at this game, its most suited game for ST mod I have ever seen ^_^

It will definitely make a much better platform for Star Trek space combat, IF it is moddable in any form. The weapon types may pose a problem as well, since beam weapons have yet to be seen in this game.
As for ground battles, I can still see that working out for invasions of planets such as Cardassia or even the Earth in a Dominion war type of setting. Shuttles and fighters can replace the aircraft, but I suppose ground vehicles could be a problem.

sounds like turning star trek into a sort of "star wars battlegrounds" style game. would be cool if it can be pulled off well enough

Aye, but my fear is that it wont be modable that well. Most RTS games are usually not modable, armada2 is a shining and special exemplar here

infact the most i know are modable beginning with c&c 1 - but not that far as possible with armada.

I think its been pushed back to spring 2006.
The problem with EAW is that the large scale game is only for 2 players at a time and only a skirmish is avalible for more players. But, for ground battles they have been seen in trek a few times, and could be done expecialy in EAW style, its seems to fit something like the dominion wars very well. That is a time frame that might fit very well, play the dom wars as the wya youy like it.

there is too little information about star trek ground battles. sure they exist but were they only fought between man and man or were there also ground vehicles or a fortress etc build on a planets surface? nobody know.
so such a mod would be great experiment also because the mod developers have to think of ground vehicles too, that actually never appeared in star trek AND they have to keep the star trek flair when they do that otherwise a mod basing on eaw just looks like fake trek fought with skinned star wars units where starfleettroops act like imperial troopers and federation fighters do manoveurs like x-wings...
