Hello Fleet Ops community! I'm new to the forums, but not the game. We're veterans from the original Armada I & Armada II games. I thought I'd join forums and get in touch with the community because I played against a few members from this forums. I'd like give kudos to the people who brought Fleet Ops together. You guys have done an amazing job so far. I am impressed. It's great that we are able to play Star Trek Armada again.
If you guys haven't seen me around, I'm in games that are usually hosted by Defiant and McDoogle. We usually password the games because we have a different playing style from the community. We adapted a map called penetration from the original A1 game into Fleet Ops because it allows players to build up an entire base, and very, very large fleets, hence the name Fleet Ops. This map and other versions, were very popular in the original Armadas.
We played with a few community members but we had incompatible playing styles. We're not a fan of rushing and defeating the other team in less than 5 mins. We found that to eventually get boring and repetitive. Trust me, we used to do that all the time in the original Armada game. Some people took it too far and built everything down to the millisecond. At that point it's not a strategy game, it more about who has the fastest reaction time in order to build a unit, or whose fingers can press the hot keys the quickest. That just defeats the purpose of the game. We're more into building a fleet of Defiants rather than play Rush Ops.
Now that we are on the forums, I'm welcoming and offering everyone an invitation to play with us by trying out our maps and our style. The maps are well made, and have been tested. In the future, our games will not have a password because we'd like to be better connected to the community.
Thanks again to the people who put Fleet Ops together!

Yes, always good to see new folks.
Personally, there are some games I play to win and some I play for fun. One reason I like Fleetops is that it can work as both. In the coming week I should be able to get online to play my first couple of games. I would be willing to try your late game style. Could you post or provide a link to the map(s) you use?
Thanks.

Hey everyone, I'm the McDoogle he's refering to in the post. I adapted the penetration map into armada a little while back and will be more than happy to post a link to it. In fact, back in the day or the original armada 1, i used to go modding including modelling aswell as map making

Sounds interesting. I've been seeing those games and complaining about them on teamspeak, but with no real way to reach you guys there was nothing to be done. Hopefully I'll have a time block big enough to join you sometime.
That said, I hope you're honest about the map and playstyle being balanced. The last time I agreed to play with people who "prefer to play bigger games with big fleets" they had placed a massive fleet of derelicts on the map next to their base (including 3 Tavaras), and did nothing for 2 hours before attacking me with a bunch of ships they didn't even build themselves. I was not impressed.
