How is the offense value calculated?

I ask, because i noted that the Fed Phaser platform does 17.5 dps (42 offense value) and the dominion phaser sentry does 11 dps (34 offense value).

The truth is we don't exactly know: Mal has a few posts on the forum about his rough calculations which usually get within 1-2 points of the actual value, but as we've recently discovered, having multi-targeting seems to affect the Offensive Value as well. Consequently it appears that Multi-Targeters can artificially lower the Offensive Value.

i just wonder: both shouldnt be Multitargeter, if i remember right. And going after the values we see ingame: The fed phaser plattform does 0,42 points damage per offensive point and the dominion one does only 0,32 damage per offensive point. So i got curios, how this is calculated  :blink:

Dominion also has EPS control nodes, that might affect the offense value.

Passives do not affect Offensive Value :) .

If you put up the damage each shot does, and the shot delay up here I can show you the calculation up here more or less. I don't have FO installed on this machine  ^-^

Dominion Phaser Sentry: 34 Offense, Phaser does 22 Damage, 2 Sec Delay
Federation Phaser Plattform: 42 Offense, Phaser does 35 Damage, 2 Sec Delay

yep the calculations for the system values are quite complicated, as many many factors are taken into account, including the Phaser Sentries passive ability, race specific or weapon specific characteristics, weaponrange and the like

system wise, its actually the other way round :) the unis characteristics are calculated from the attributes

Somehow I have a very very hard time believing that the Offensive Value is affected by passives directly - all offensive values have stayed constant, and all internal values stayed constant between versions 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 even though passives were changed, diminished, or switched. The mystery of Offensive Value will continue I think, because sometimes the values make sense - and other times, things are just plain screwy!  :lol: . What I'd like to know is how to approximate Defensive Value.  ^-^

The best way to calculate offensive value is to double the tax, then round up. :thumbsup:

Aye... but for some reason, offensive values are easily calculated for ships, yet can't be calculated in the same manner for turrets I'm seeing.  :sweatdrop:

passive abilities might directy affect damage dealth, or affect offensive value, depends on their effect
