How Weapons Work

Before FleetOps, like just about any Armada2 fan, I downloaded mods that added on new ships, station, weapons, etc.
Usually, to install the new weapons for A2 (basic beam, pulse, torpedo or special weapons), you had to add them to the weapon.spr file. When I go through the .odf files for FleetOps, I notice LOTS of weapon files for just one ship, let alone the entire faction's ships. At first, I thought this would lead to hell if I wanted to add new weapon files to the game. However, when I went through the Sprites folder, weapon.spr was no where to be found.
Can someone explain to me how the FO team has rigged the many weapon files to work without the weapon.spr file? By weapons, I mean the standard ones, and not special weapons, like ACS torpedo, Shield-Breaking, etc.

By moving all of the entries to the 'fleetops.spr' instead.

Oh I see...
The sprite entires for the basic weapons are there, so the .odf files are just descriptions for the files, defining how the work, what they're supposed to look like, how much damage they do....
I figured out all of that just by your telling me.... Find one piece that fits and then the rest of the puzzle falls into place....
Thanks again. Now back to thinking of scripting some of my own weapons.....
Right now I'm trying to add in this Galaxy Deflector Beam (Galaxy Deflector Beam, Star Trek: Armada 2 Downloads, Star Trek: Armada 2 Weapons) by Dan1025 for my Enterprise-D.
Now that I have this straightened out, it shouldn't be as hard as before.... I hope
