Hello, Just downloaded the mod and wanted to know how active the community is on Fleet ops.net... Do alot of people still play online?
Also, what is a good race to start learning this mod and which is the most balance AI setting?
Edit: Also what is the maximum amount of ships that can be built, I remember in the original game it was limited with the amount of officers you can have or something like that... So what is the limit here?
Thanks
P.S. I'm New

Welcome!
I am not sure how active at this very moment since I am away for the holidays myself, but... as of late there have been around 20 folks playing most evenings and especially weekends at any one time.
For starters... I recommend you play feds to begin with. They are the simplest to learn, have a forgiving economy, and you can build the most kinds of ships from the fewest kinds of yards. Play against the AI on normal mode to begin. Try to beat it without using turrets.. (many new folks tend to just turtle in MP and that = lose against humans.
Other races are also fun but best to learn the game mechanics on one..
Federation - strong defenses, fast builders, simple economy. Ships are offensively weak and really rely on counters though.
Romulans - weak mining and fleet combat, but excellent raiders and ambushers.
Klingons - strong mining and fleet combat. Absolutely must raid to support economy which is expensive.
Dominion - unique economy. Very powerful late game but can be weak early if you aren't good with econ.
Borg - easiest race to keep your fleets alive. Excellent fleet combat but unique gameplay.
If you like to learning, I recommend checking out:
http://guide.fleetops.net/guide/main
There is an excellent run down on ships including the counters (counter make a ships much better against certain opponents...) and some recommended build orders.
Also.. there is a vast library of youtube vids that show how the game is played.

Hi.
Depends on what you consider "active". There aren't hundreds of people playing here, and you're only likely to get games going in the afternoon and evening of european and american timezones.
Also, there's no such thing as a balanced AI setting as the AI does nothing but spam ships and send them your way, eventually. Normal, Hard and Merciless affects the level to which they will tech up and the amount of money they pay for ships (from heavily reduced to almost none).
Best just play it to read some mouseovers, get a feeling for how building stuff works and then go join the humans :-)
Most games are conducted over the awful platform that Tunngle is. Teamspeak will help communicating ingame, but that's all information one can find on the guide in the relevant sections.
Yea, The Guide, with capital letters. It may seem like a lot to read through at first, but just reading through the basic sections, the general tips for the federation and then trying to replicate a buildorder in singleplayer I found to be quite effective in learning the game. If you have time and enjoy that kind of thing you can also check out a bunch of the replays, they all come with commentary and they will allow you to see how other players start their game and handle their units.
Unit limit has been removed, there are only some limits for specific units you will learn about in time. Mouseovers tell you (almost) everything you need to know about a ship :-)
Hope to see you online after christmas!
