Out of curiosity, how often do any of you actually use Mixed-Tech? Just wondering, since replays almost never seem to show it.

I've only been able to use it (or had it used against me) in a handful of 1v1's as well as some FFA's (less than 10). In team games I use it fairly regularly, but it is still quite rare unless a game progresses to late game stages, or is a 3v3 or 4v4. 2v2's I use mixed-tech quite rarely.

without an ally its rather a lot of work to steal a constructor, and it wont get you much. and by the time you can steal a constructor, you probably have won already.

in team games i love going for mixed tech around mid to late game. some ships are worth every penny (m2, edjen etc). maybe 3rd yard will be mixed tech if possible.

Mixed tech isn't worth it at all.  The units take way too long to build, have to be built at separate yards instead of allowing refits, and are way underpowered for the cost.  Do the following, and mixed tech will be worth it.

If I could build a research station, have it research the technology, then refit the ships with the technology for about 1/4 the cost of the ship with a 1/2 supply cost, then maybe, it'll be worth it.

Also, the mixed-tech ships that are only buildable at the mixed-tech yards, should be buildable at one of the non-mixed-tech yards and be refitted with the alien technology.

Plus, I want other vessels to be able to be refitted with the technology.  Give more of a variety and a choice on what vessel has what technology.  And allow vessels to be upgraded with more than one technology from the said faction with a limit of maybe 3 mixed-tech refits.

In a REAL game (not vs. AI) you must get the constructor, take it to your base, build the yard, research it and to the point you have build a single ship, there stands an enemy armada before your base. Its not only the cost, but also the time... remember, you also have to manage everything else...

The boons from mixed tech are way too soft to be useful. Some chassis are worth it, like the dominion dreadnought, the Miranda II, the edjen or the rommie one with those special disruptors. All other ships, mainly speaking for the klingons are not worth the effort.

mt is worth it. miranda 2/edjen are amazing for the cost.

or you could just have an ally and build the yard with one of your own constructors.

mt is gonna get redone soon. hopefully it will get more useful, but it is already useful. hopefully it wont become op and people will ignore non mt.

Agreed. It's not worth it.

Back when I did MP more often I would occasionly (pretty much only in team matches) do mixed tech in lieu of the adv yard ships if I had an ally, and twice I captured builders, each time  they were dominion miners (not borg plays were assims gobbled up a builder setting up an expansion, as the borg get modules not ships, and it's much less expenseve all in all, plus balanced totaly differnt).

It'd be cool to see mixed tech yards replaced with refits. Pay X ammount, for example, and Intrepids get graviton enhanced photon torpedos for example,  or a Defiant gets a cloaking device but it wont cloa..... wait we allready have that ( :p ).

And have a differnce between an ally and a captured ship, have each offer something differnt.

As for how to do it..... make the buttons invisible unless you meet all the requirements to build. Have mixed tech allow building an 'alien tech research station'. When you're allied with or capture a ship belonging to a race, you gain the ability to research a mixed tech refit (which can affect more than one ship). Prehaps have SOME mixed tech refits only come if you capture a mixed tech ship. (or someones yard or starbase, prehaps)

I have to agree that mixed tech is quite useless because of the time it needs to research alien technology. It's a great and unique feature of FO, but you can't really use it if you want to win. Mixed tech yards don't even have ally repair, you can't really proxy them. I use them very rarely, although I wouldn't say that the ships themselves are too expensive. It's just hard to get them.
I think the only race that uses mixed tech quite often is the one with the worst mixed tech. The Borg ;).

ive made mixed tech as my second yard in a 3v3 and won. in a 2v2 id make it as my third yard.

I don't like the Idea of a unitmax with mixed-tech (unless it's super powerfull ship like the dominion dreaghtnought. 10 of those woukd be a pain :lol:)
