I use atleast 3 fleets in one single armada most of the time, each with between 8 and 16 ships and an additional 2 fleets if resources permit.
Fleet 1 = Defiant Class - Their hull strength makes them ideal for destroying the largest of vessels/stations and their size means that many torpedos miss easily, great in both offence and defence.
Fleet 2 = Intrepid Class - Very good for combatting the Rheinn class and similar ships, their photons give them a firepower advantage against the medium sized ships and the Tricobalt Torpedos are a great way to take out those vessels that drift just wide of your fleet, however vs large vessels and stations the Intrepid class is weak.
Fleet 3 = Akira Class - Fantastic for taking out the smallest ships, also great fire on the largest, especially cubes. The Point Defence makes them fantastic vs all torpedo loaded ships but very weak vs all phaser and disrupter heavy vessels.
Additional Fleet 1 = Sovereign Class - Their quantum torpedos make them ideal for taking out the largest vessels and stations while their phasers are powerful enough to deal with all ship sizes. Their shield and hull strength is high enough to take a fair beating which makes them the best all-round ship.
Additional Fleet 2 = Repair/Support - In this fleet I usually have 2 Canaveral class ships to each Newton class I have, ideally I would have 4 Newton class with 8 Canaveral class vessels and, if I can spare them, 4 Excelsior-II class ships.
I micromanage all my fights, check what I'm fighting and direct my fleets to take out individual targets that are threats to my other fleets.

this is a splitted topic from the 'various strategies' thread. i intended the subforum to be used like this where you make threads about your personal strategies or games and then discuss about them. any critisism or ideas (desired) go to the "forum/site quality" forum NOT in here. thx
btw. i came up with the very cool thread title "my federation strategy"

Actually their pulse weapons are ideal for destroying the smallest targets
They only deal 60% of damage to big targets
Fleet 2 = Intrepid Class - Very good for combatting the Rheinn class and similar ships, their photons give them a firepower advantage against the medium sized ships and the Tricobalt Torpedos are a great way to take out those vessels that drift just wide of your fleet, however vs large vessels and stations the Intrepid class is weak.
I use intrepids mainly for battleships though, they have a very weak phaser but a very strong torp plus many HPs. So again if you shoot at small targets u loost 40% of your torps, so again in my opinion your wrong
Fleet 3 = Akira Class - Fantastic for taking out the smallest ships, also great fire on the largest, especially cubes. The Point Defence makes them fantastic vs all torpedo loaded ships but very weak vs all phaser and disrupter heavy vessels.
Akiras are good vs everything due to their phaser which always deals 100% dam and never misses plus they have quite high HP. Not high enough for sieging a base head on with only Akiras
I totally agree with you there The best fed sieging ship in my opinion
Additional Fleet 2 = Repair/Support - In this fleet I usually have 2 Canaveral class ships to each Newton class I have, ideally I would have 4 Newton class with 8 Canaveral class vessels and, if I can spare them, 4 Excelsior-II class ships.
Thats a nice idea to have

I said their hull strength made them ideal for taking on large ships. The pulse phasers are less effective against the largest ships but even at 60% they are very dangerous when combined with the hull strength they can endure alot of punishment. I admit tho that with less than 12 defiant class ships you sometimes have to take alot of damage, which is why I tend to focus alot of my resources on building defiant class ships.

Ok, maybe I am slightly wrong... but thinking of it from a more development point of view, Akiras are great for taking on Rheinn type ships when you can get Akiras, but very often it seems to me that your opponent has upgraded Rheinn class ships before you've even researched Chassis 2.

I still like the excelsior-2 better than the sovereign. The long-range weapons really make the difference when showering someone's base with quantums, and you only lose 30 shield points compared to a sovvy.
Oh and the increased torpedo hit chance against medium targets is also VERY nice to counter those enemy cruisers coming out to engage you.

Very true, that's one of the first things I do as a Romulan.

Feds have Monsoons for destruction of other races destroyers
In FO every ship has its counterpart which can be build at about the same time
Yah they have a lot of hull HPs, but just try to attack a cube once with them Just for fun
And I would much rather have 12 sovies than 12 defiants, or better yet 6sovies and 6defiants

Indeed, I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the new performance specifications to come out. I've already heard that the romulan destroyers won't kick quite as much butt as they used to ...
