New to FO...Awesome mod!

So, I just got FO and boy is it great! Honestly, this is probably one of the best RTSs out there right now...and it's Star Trek! I'm a big fan myself. I'm trying to learn the basics of the game, think I'm getting there. Hopefully there are a lot of people who play this online...I'll be there soon!

What's the best race to start with? I just went to Federation first (I wanted a Sovereign class  ).

Welcome to the forums

You'll find that there are many people who play online regularly, although I would not recommend trying to find many people on the integrated Gamespy feature (many people have trouble using the feature). Instead you might consider downloading Hamachi (it's free) and joining the network FLOPS2 (password FLOPS2). You can then join games by using the TCP/IP feature 

Every faction has it's strengths and weaknesses, so it all depends on what you are looking for. If you'd like, you can read this guide to get a good idea of what Fleet Operations is about and how each of the factions play

Welcome and indeed this is probably the best mod for any game ever made, and it's only going to get more epic down the road  . I have not played online in awhile though I'll be more active after the next patch is released so I look forward to playing some games with you in the future. In my opinion the Feds are probably the best race to start out as though with practice any of the races will stand out superior to others.

Thanks guys! I've already checked out that guide...extremely useful!

I've used Hamachi before, so I'll be sure to set it up and play with you guys! But I'm still a noob, hah...although yesterday I did manage to beat the AI 1v1 on Normal, haha.

There are lots of really cool things about this mod (beyond the cool graphics)...the nebulae, the random Ferengi (they stole one of my ships and I tried to chase them down but failed! Haha!), etc...it's very well done. I look forward to exploring it more and getting competent enough to play online! I'll be under this name.

Hello, I'd like to jump on this thread as it expresses exactly what I've wanted to say since first installing this mod two months ago: I've fallen head over heels for what you've achieved here. I've never seen anything like it, that adds so much to the game in terms of look, gameplay features and experience, whilst retaining the essence of what made the original a blast to play. It's gorgeous. It's inventive. It's absolutely in love with it's source material, as I am...

It's just a wonderful piece of work, guys. The next patches/updates simply can't come fast enough!

It is not actually, but there is a glitch that makes it appear that way. I suggest moving to Wippien anyway...
