Question about proxy torp

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

does proxy torp always hit? or just hit more often?

and am i correct in assuming it deals more damage to smaller ships?

It doesn't have a 'hitchance' in the odf, so I don't about the accuracy but the tooltip claims it does more damage to small targets. The 'damagebase' does seem to have higher numbers for small and medium targets than large ones of the same race.

thanks for the clarification on the damage levels, i looked at those numbers too but wasnt certain enough to say for sure.

i couldnt find a hitchance number either.

Hehe, the hit chance is 100%.  Think about it.  Torpedoes in FO miss based on ECM, so if you have a torpedo that explodes near but doesn't need to hit the target, then it will always be effective.  Especially against smaller targets with weaker shields. ^-^

the ecm could be really good and the torp detonate far away and still not do damage.

where do u base your knowledge of 100% hit chance from? do you know it, or are you reasoning from the explanation in the rest of your post.

if u are sure then i'll take your word and add it in the tutorial.

Just because the odfs don't have a hitchance=1 in them, doesn't mean it's not 100.  The other thing that's missing is the modifier to the vessels that tell it to miss something.  So no .8 or .6 and a long string of vessels with different hit percentages.  The absence of that is what is really important.

Feel free to test monsoons out against sabers or something.  If you do at least 10 test trials using the proxy torp, you should never see one hit and can be confident that it's 100%.  Then you don't have to take my word for it.  A test like that and the lack of hit modifiers in the odfs in the special should be enough to confirm it. ^-^

The only thing that might make it miss is the Remore's ECM, but that will make even phasers miss. :woot:

Missing code usually does tend to default to 1.0. ScaleSOD and the code for beam radius works like that, hitchance also working that way wouldn't be a strange concept.

ok. sounds reasonable that hit chance defaults to 1 if the line is left out.

Special weapons always hit dont they??

No, they vary by the weapon. The Negh'Vars Weapon Overload and the Excelsior-IIs Vector Torpedo have the same accuracy as a standard Torpedo.

trico torp too.

with the neggie it can be really painful if you waste all that energy and then have no normal torps left lol. but if it does hit, WHAMMY

Lol @ Myles

You know the Earth is round, right?

Or do you need some proof?  I'll be happy to start walking from Los Angeles towards China (using a jetski to cross the Pacific, of course :D), across the trans-siberian railway, and then swim the English Channel on my way back towards the US.

  If you'd like ....

Or ... you could just be a little more trusting  :whistling:

jet skiing accross the pacific is gonna be a meme soon lol.

I wanted to be certain of the facts as the tutorial vids have to be accurate first time.

good to know. do the other variables default to 1? if so, then this is guide material. you can skip odf lines if u dont need to change the values. smaller odfs means smaller version checking time.
