Ship speed...

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

I realize that ships move at different speeds, but going into battle this can cause problems. I find that some ships get to the battle before the other ships allowing them to be easily destroyed. It would be nice if you could include in a future update that ships in "fleets" all move at the lowest speed that the least fastest ship is. I would like my fleets to arrive in the battle together.  ^-^

totally agree with that, since you could loose half your fleet before the main confrontation!  :rolleyes:

Good Idea, needs thinking of.

That's a known issue but hasn't been fixed yet. I don't know why. I also think it's a major point in RTS so this should become a high prio for devs. What I heard so far that there are problems with the out of synch issue which is in the Armada II hard code. Maybe Doca or Optec could clarify that matter as many would like to know what's going on.

All your questions should be answered here. :)

i dont believe it needs fixing. unit move at a constant speed (at least thats what i would like it to be) and this is common in RTS.
ships dont stay together as they move -> group ships with similar speed
they still spread -> micro

problem solved :whistling:

Yeah, and plus, holding control fixes it permanently anyway so... nothing really to fix  :rolleyes:

So keeping ctrl pressed when moving my ships should keep them together. Kind of a pain, but defiantly something I'm willing to do...  :thumbsup:

Grouping ships with similar speed, pretty much destroys the game for me... I like fleets of all different ships.

Well ... what do you do when your long range ships begin firing and your short range do not?

You should group them by speed and weapon range and then move each fleet with each other.  That way they stay as a group and support each other without dragging each other down.  A single Descent can nullify the speed of your Excelsiors, Akiras, and Sabers for no reason at all.

  Just keep those fast destroyers nearby to your slower main battle fleet and then pounce when you're ready!

Speaking of ship speeds, why is the movement speed and caombat speed the same? Most ships (excluding things like fighters and the Defiant) usually move slower in battle, especially ones in a fleet.

All speeds are the same.  My guess is you've made one of two possible errors:

1:  You are grouping fast units into the same team as slow units.  All will travel at the same speed of the slowest unit in the group.

2:  You are simply selecting "Attack" on your opponent's vessels.  You are actually clicking attack on them instead of clicking beyond them or around them.

Vessels slow down when they approach their target.  This is not a bug, it's because in real life you don't run into the target...  They slow down when they approach and then if they try to start moving again they have to accelerate and pick up speed.

Not what I mean. I'm asking why the movement and combat speed are the same, not why fast ships are moving at the same speed as slow ones (which they never do for me, anyway).

Check a physics file, the speed when they're 'just moving' is the same as when they are 'in battle'.

This what I'm talking about
combatspeed = 36
impulsespeed = 36

Indeed.  You want to know why the game isn't like the show.  Microing units is a pretty important part of the game, so if you want to get a ship out of range for repairs, but it's' using the slower combat speed, then it will probably get destroyed.  Again, I think this is where the game shows that it is an rts with units, rather than perfectly reflecting the starships in every way.

Oh my bad.  I misread it.  I thought you were wondering why it WASN'T the same :)

Seems ctrl does help, still not perfect... but at least now my fast ships aren't a mile ahead of my fleet.  :santa:
