I've opened this topic because no matter how hard i search i cannot find a description of what the Offensive, Defensive and System Values of a ship mean?
Its ok Offensive Value determines the damage somehow, but i cant find out from it whats the fire rate of the ship and whats the correct damage. Defensive Value? Another number that tells me nothing. What resistances a ship has, if it has any, and how many shield points, how many hull points? System Value? Huh yea, now here im totally confused again. What does it mean? Regeneration capability? Speed? Sensor range?
Pls help

from what i cant tell:
offensive Value = total firepower (i.e its brute strength)
defensive value = total defensive capability (i.e could be the average value of combined hull & shield points) not sure as i dont have V3 installed to check.
system Value = not sure how it works but the higher the number the quicker special energy recharges & systems are repaired.
Well i dont have V3 installed (as said earlier) so i cant check exactly how it works, but you really dont need to know tbh. you'll know the relative strength of the ship but if you go on these values alone, you'll be shredded by AI med upwards.

Yeah, well maybe too much Values would confuse me, but i dont think so as i really like to know every little piece of data about my units. Anyways, these relative values arent that bad either, just i miss some description about them. Hehh but still, i would like to have another Value wich tells the ships speed... And to know the correct HP values too... Offensive Value and System Value is OK, but Defensive i still wish to know more about it...

it is difficult to put a value on defence, other than the way i described it (whether that is acurate or not, only the devs can say), because certain ships will have certain weaknesses to some weapons but strengths against others.
eg: saber class : pulses will shred the crap out of it, but torpedoes will rarely ever even hit (so i've found anyway)
eg2: a large battleship: torpedoes are the way to go, pulses will do very little damage.
as for speed, there is no value for it, because it is arranged via ship sizing rather than based on individual classes.
large = "light speed"
medium = "Ridiculous speed"
small = "Ludicrous speed"
lol lets see how many people get that

Ok, ok fine
Well, but for an example Sovereign is one of the most advanced starships of starfleet and its moving very slow :/ I know its a Battleship and it cannot be superfast, but... I still find it too slow compared to the advanced engines it should have
But anyways, ty for the help!

Lol, looks like.
Anyways, though, I KNOW FO isn't supposed to be a realistic game, it's built for fun balanced gameplay, I LIKE it like that, this is just a comment...
A bigger ship goes faster than a smaller one usually, because it has room for bigger engines/sails/generators. For example, the fastest boats are also the biggest ones these days.

Yeah well thats right but maybe the creators of the sci-fi universes based their imaginations on aircrafts... And at Aircrafts, the smaller is the faster, thanks to the lower weight and much better aerodinamics.
But here comes in the space... no need for aerodinamics, there is no air or anything else what would cause drag: for the big ones a lot, for the small ones only a little...
This way what you have said is correct, bigger ships can have more advanced and bigger generators and engines, thus they should be able to move faster, or with the same speed as the smaller ones... But that would be bad, sadly, as that would make everyone run around with the biggest ship as its the fastest and strongest, and the smaller ships wouldnt be usable for quick ambushes and such anymore...
Altrough, its not only the speed, bigger ships might be able to move with the same speed on a straight line, but when it comes to manuevering, big ones turn and accelerate/deccelerate a lot slower thanks to inertia.

gravity can (and most likely will) cause drag. space might not be quite so empty, a sea of tiny invisible particles, or big globs of "dark matter", or even being in the same sector as a blackhole/pulsar or even a planet, all would cause gravity to varying degrees.

Ludicrous speed, Go!
To my knowledge, there is no place where there is "Zero Gravity", there's always some gravity from a major source out there with a nice pull. That's actually freefall our astronauts are in . There's a very good deal of gravity still acting on them, that's why they stay in orbit. Also, gravity isn't the cause of drag. It's the atmosphere acting on the plane that causes it. Physics nerds are the best!
Anyway, I think that for the tactical side of the game, battleships should be slow. But that still doesn't mean I think they're going too slow. I'd say a good ol' Soverign shouldn't be less than 2/3 the speed of a scout. Otherwise, they just don't get to the party before all the light ships are deep fried.

I agree completely.

What you've said is right, but arent Starfleet's ships equipped with gravity and antigravity generators and fields, inertia stabilizers and ofc with the impulse engines (whose are based on ships weight and gravity too) since 22th century? I dont think they are affected much by gravityes of planets, only blackholes and such...

er..yeah well uhm... shut up.
anyway, yeah the whole speed difference based on ship size is basically for gameplay purposes, if you really had a sovie with speed & such of a destroyer people would complain that it was more unfair, since non-of the over battleships would match it. and anyway, besides ships seperated by era, there really isnt that big of a difference in speed between ships. As you are all aware (hopefully) this will put the Klingons at a significant disadvantage since most of there ships are pretty old.
