I just down loaded the v3 FO preview, the mod is amazing. I want to add some of the stand alone ships Ive been using in my stock A2 game to FO, but I can't get them to even be buildable. Anyone know what I need to do? I suspect the odfs are written differently is the problem, but I'm not sure. I've been able to add some weapons to FO just not ships. :huh:

That's almost certainly the problem. Everyone was noting around the release of V3 how the ODFs are so different, how it's entirely more complex to mod.

erm not really to be honest, its just the same as any other armada actully, most values they add dont currently do anything...

for instance here are some taken from the Fed sovie main .odf

ValidODF=1 - does nothing, i believe its just part of their own customer checker, it dont matter if u delete it or not
ODFExtensions=Y - your find this i most but once again for their won personal system tools, u could remove this line and it wouldnt affect a thing.

OffensiveValue = 36
DefensiveValue = 43
SystemValue = 18

they all do absoutely nothing at the moment, once again u could change them around, add or remove them and no change would happen, i believe there still intergrating this.

the rest is pretty standard .odf stuff.

to add a ship all you need is a .sod that has a matching name with an .odf and the relevant texture, add to the build list of your choosen station and the tech1.tt

btw if for instance you was adding a ship to the fed basic one, you would add it to the fed_antares_yardY.odf for the first avatar, that female or to fed_antares_yardZ.odf for the second avatar, that bloke. you wuld just remove one fo those all delays and add ur ship instead. if you wanted to add a station you would do the same but edit one of the construction ships .odf, y for girl, z for bloke and so on, need anymore help then just ask

shouldn't you also have to add to the tech tree, as armada won't let you build it without a valid tech tree entry, just like in stock a2 there are plenty of extra's in the defualt shipyard ofd's, you just can't build them because they are limited to one or two missions level tech trees.

I remember someone saying a while back it is because the SOD's are quite different as well as sprites and stuff (some of the more technical aspects of Armada modding).

not very often i have to qoute myself but here goes...

FO only uses one tech tree and i gave him the exact one to use, the TECH1.TT just to make his life easier.

anywya if you get stuck adding ships after that just let me know and i'll help ya some more, buld buttons and al that are the same old armada way

the way sods are exported are exactly the same, for htere sprites you need to look at the right file for the releveant ones, the ones they changed were all the crew ones and added a fair few more, but basically if you open the fleetops.spr file and scroll down to damage just pick ya fancy out of there i dont know why they changed them to things like burn and wound from crew but hey aslong as i know what they are im happy, but they only changed the spirit names, anyone cna do it, just got to make the texture and add it to the spirits bit.

but the SOD's, the SOD architecture and the way the hierachy works is all exactly the same still :)

so dnt be afraid, FO dont bite

Hmm I tried everything I can think of and no joy :(
I redid the entire Odf using the sovereigns as a template, changed the build button texture file name to match the fo ones, and tried most of the build que combinations for the antares ship yard odfs and no luck..Has anyone actually added a stand alone ship to FO? I'm trying to put the Aurora stargate ship in if that helps, I got the drones to work on other 'stock' ships. I just can't get the Aurora to be buildable :dead:

I've added ships before, you sure you just aren't seeing a button? or is the shipyard full, they can only hold I think what 13 ships? There is a point at which a shipyard can build no more ships, I forget at which point it hits that though

most of the shipyards have a "builditemx="all delay", that is nothing but an empty place holder so overwrite one of those if they are there. and half the time i've added ships ive added the button wrong but the ship is buildable, add me to msn if you have got it and send me the files you have midified and i will take a look at them for you, i've added ships and stations with no problems

Yea I worded my last question badly, I checked to see if the button was invisible. Anyway,l I guess I did something right because I can build it now, think I just needed to use FO's odf format. However the ship comes out invisible and has no weapons, if this were stock A2 it would probably be the little white bug block thing. which I think means somethings wrong with the sod file...hmm

to be honest it just sounds like you have't matched up the sod and odf right, they both must have the same name, please add me to your msn and i will check ur files and tell you where the mistake is.

I just checked the two file names and they are the same.
aurora
aurora.sod

Theres no way for me to say this without sounding like a tech illiterate
but I'm not sure what you mean by my msn. I dont use an instant messenger if thats what you mean. :huh:

So does this mean when I select which ships to populate my battle groups with, the Offence, Defense, and System Values displayed on screen really don't have anything to do with the power and hitpoints of the ships?
