Silly Question - Map only and one off build - difference?

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

The forum is replete with references to the Scimitar and the Prometheus, as well as threads that reference them as Map objects.

Can we actually define the difference between map object and one off build by any race (other than the resources needed to build it, or maybe the research needed - say biogenic weaponry by Roms to unlock the Scimitar, or the feds researching MVAM to unlock the Prometheus - both at an experimental yard..) is there any specific gameplay or balancing distinction (and please dont say it is used by that 1 race and player as opposed to anyone) that comes to the fore which would make a map object being found and then used to attack your enemies any different from a one off that you build, in regards to arguments that cite difficulty to balance the Prometheus or Scimitar as the reason for making them map objects?

Not sure, but I believe that although map units are capturable (possibly), they start off as hostile; so no balancing needed for that reason... maybe  :sweatdrop:

hmm. so we're talking about NPC instead of derelict when we mention "map object"?
So prometheus and Scimitar are supposed to be NPCs?

You just want to build the Prometheus and the Scimitar, let's get to the point.

@ Serpicus. Perhaps? (That's what I had assumed; otherwise it would be too easy to gain an early advantage against one's opponent)
...but either way, it is not necessarily race specific (meaning there is merely a race to capture the ship, no pun intended)
