Is anyone going to attend this? For those who are, is there anyone willing to pass out FlettOps CDs?

Recommended contents of the CD
* FleetOps 3.1.5 installation

do we have any san franciscans here? or people who can get there lol?

i think the main problem with this is that it requires people to go out and get armada 2.

obviously a rep couldnt point them to illegal methods, and legal methods require them to go buy the game, which can get expensive :( thats the main restrictive problem with a mod of an old game, not that many people have the game lol.

at least the torrent for vanilla a2 is kinda healthy, so that any savvy people who get the CD could independently download it if they wanted to. but it still requires them to put it in some effort for the mod.

also i dont think it would be wise to store a copy of the guide main page on the cd, even if they could access that locally, all of them important bits of the guide would still need internet access. i'd just have a link to the guide main page.

And finally, I'm pretty sure that modding is actually illegal :lol:

i dont think that is true. modding is fine, they are keeping the requirement for purchasing a2, and they arent making any money from it. the original credits are all there as well. i dont think the current rights holders for a2 have any reason to sue modders.

The guide could of course be downloaded using one of the website downloader tools - however it wouldn't remain up-to-date very long  :sweatdrop:

I wish that Armada 2 wasn't so expensive so that more and more people find out about Fleet Ops and buy it!

It's so expensive because it's a pretty rare commodity.

That said, how long until Activision's license/copyright/whatever expires on A2?

That, plus companies (such as lucasarts and EA) realized that suing over mods was utterly counterproductive back in the mid/late '90s. Only utterly idiotic comapnies sue over it now.

FULLY update the guide to the version on the CD, include full guide on  CD, with a note that if they update it further, they will need to go to the online guide for the latest updates.

Also, idea, prehaps have the CD include the A2 demo (assuming there was one) modded for flops. If not doable quickly then forget it yeah.

There was a demo which I seem to recall being Instant Action only and it only included the Borg and the Feds, but I don't know if you could have modded it to add ships or races, etc.

Seems to me it'd be VERY easy to mod unless the .exe was compiled such as to NOT allow any changes.

Yeah, that's what I don't know. It's entierly possible that it's not even the same as the finished A2 executable; like it's an intermediate build state.
