Well, finally something we gamers already knew: There is no relation between violence and gaming! The difference is that now some scientific process has proven it.

Here is the link http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0068382

Those that proposed such a crazy "theory" never explained to us, why the world before gaming was even more violent than todays and they never gave any data or statistics just a bunch of biased theories for political gain.

So if you feel the need to blow some planets is not because FleetOps!!

Most of the people who try to push the erroneous connection don't have much respect for scientific studies that draw conclusions counter to their world view, so expect this to be promptly ignored.

AH CRAP! Why didn't someone post this earlier before I went out and started kicking the neighbor's dog and punching little kids at the park after I was done playing CoD. Now what am I going to use as an excuse? :hmmm:

I use violent games to calm myself. True my study on university i would kill many of my profesors and their assistants if i hadnt released my anger and fury in shooting games....
In that time , specialy last year when my finals was closing on me, ocasional gaming was 1 thing that saved many "inocent" lives...

LIVE LONG , AND PLAY GAMES...

In all seriousness, it has been proven that certain "violent" games, CoD etc have been useful in allowing PTSD sufferers to "go back" to the environment that triggered it and work out their problems in a safe way. I guess that also proves how realistic some shooters are becoming today.

Me, i've always said there is no correlation between computer games and violence. If computer games directly influenced your psyche like that, so could films or books. Also, it would mean the hours we spend playing Civilisation, Total War or Fleet Ops have turned us into the greatest generals the world will ever know.

I don't know about you guys, but I never wish to be in the situation where that is tested for real!

Also as my driving instructor told me about a fellow student we both knew, just because you're excellent at driving games on the PS3, that doesn't mean you have head start in actual driving. Quite the reverse apparently. He said this particular student had no sense of the dangers of the road, drove with little consideration for others and generally, (in a mild way) drove like he was playing GTA.

I can also vouch personally that no matter how good you are on a first person shooter, it in no way prepares you for firing an actual gun.

In short, computer games can benefit from real world experience, but rarely if not ever the other way around.

They are good for problem solving, lateral thinking, decision making (a study I read proved those that play "twitch" games like Team Fortress 2 are quicker to make accurate, decisive decisions in real life) and to an extent leadership though.

Any and all of these points will be swiftly ignored the next time there's a mass shooter and it turns out he played Doom once 30 years ago.
