The Borg rock.
Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Seriously, what you guys have done with the Borg is amazing. Their entire play style is kick ass, and the fact you can really send a cube into an entire fleet and have a somewhat positive outcome rocks!

I'm not a huge fan of the new system being honest, I find it too fiddly, so I always play as the Federation now. Very tempted to wipe FO and go back to the original though, I want the old borg back

The old Borg? You mean V2? You mean the version where a cube is... well... a 2x Sovereign?

I mean the original Borg from Armada 2. It might have looked crap and been unbalanced, but at least it was simple and not fiddly.

what is fiddley about them now? they have only 3 real stations to build and only two fo them once...
one to let you build ships which is there to stop you rushing... the other is for research which once built is free and then incubation chambers, thats it...
other than that its ship massing all the way... i dnt think it could actuall be anymore simple compared to any other race...
if you want a hard and truly broken race you want the klingons... all there stuff is too expensive to mass produce and too weak and too slow to build compared to other races... to have any decent play with them you need at least 3 moon sets...

I think by fiddly he means there is too much manual control involved. build a node, then choose module1 then choose module 2 then choose module 3 then click confirm. if there is lag and u click the torp too many times, it hits the cancel which exists in the same slot on the next step and u lose all ur resource.
things like that.
things like that.

Yes, that. I'd much prefer a build system like the other races.

this still doesnot address the fiddley part all that well. plus it isnt detailed enough, as tehre were many questions left unanswered specifically in regards to teh fiddly gameplay aspect.
*keeping my fingers crossed though* as gameplay changes could negate the cumbersomeness of the fiddley play.

What things were left unanswered? As far as I know, every question WAS answered

read on.. ull see a few questions not answered.. well if they were answered it would reveal everything about the changes....hence i did not push them.

Other than not knowing exactly how collective connections work, I don't see any unanswered questions

I dont want to start another unnecessary back and forth m8... u seem eager to engage me today :fish: .
But since you're asking, I had some additional questions which were left unanswered. they were specifically geared towards the fiddly aspect. Optec mentions the idea of building, and the fact that a node would dissipate on construction.
collective connections i dont care about. it is more priority related and we need to see how that one fleshes out.
however, the million dollar question is how does that alleviate the fiddly aspect.
We see him mentioning that the borg would be able to select all the modules from one interface. However, in the video i see the same "style" of interface of having to click on each torp, phaser etc. and then getting an overview of the completed structure.
this is no different from the current logic of click click lcikc and confirm, except it does not wait for each click to be confirmed by the system (meaning click torp and wait in MP to see the 1/3 populate for hull).
We do get an overview and are able to more effectively manage the build (however, most of us who have played borg often have a feel for resources per hull - for example we knowtactical cubes wth 3 toprs, 2 armours, and 1 disruptor beam are about 4500 dil and about 1900 tri give or take a few of course. A regular cube with microtech on the other hands falls to within about 3400 dil and about 1200 tri again give or take a few).
This interface doesnt seem to address the fiddly aspects.
The gameplay changes for borg where optec mentions that costs have been changed and resource management is different (which have not been disclosed here) are assumed by me to have some side effect which MAY alleviate teh fiddly aspect as regards borg gameplay (especially since we see the borg ship being constructed in the vid).
so im hoping to wait and watch to see of the overall gameplay changes help alleviate the borg's "fiddleyness", which I tend to call overemphasis on micromanagement... (it may be good from an overall look and feel aspect, but is annoying for a player in the heat of combat).
Hence my last post of wait and watch, as it would be rude on my part to have pressed any further in that thread.

Aww, didn't mean I wanted a fight mate: I just wanted to know which things you still had questions for so that I could possibly answer them
As far as I understood, it will still be "fiddly": it just requires you to foot the bill all at once and wait for construction . Imo this is because the Borg are inherently non-micromanaging... and this is the way to balance them (hence having node construction and selectable modules ... of course that is also because having 50 different types of Assimilator would be downright ridiculous )
