Okay here is your situation:

You were doing perfectly fine in an early game winning streak. No enemy in this Free-for-All has been able to over come your defenses yet. So, you decide to fill your yard's construction pane with 3 Akiras, 2 Intrepids, and 5 Sabers. You go to grab a cup of coffee and leave the game running confident in your defense. When you return, you depleted your dilithium. Your starbase and all mining docks except one were destroyed. You only have one freighter, a construction ship, your ship yard, and the ships that were built in your pane thus far (3 Akiras and 1 Intrepid).

Here is a more detailed over look:
Current Standpoint of the game: Early Game turning towards Mid-Game
Current Dilithium: 0
Current Tritanium: 630
Current Supply: 121

Current ships:
- 1 Mediterranean
- 3 Akiras
- 1 Intrepid
- 1 Freighter (Currently mining tritanium at a distant expansion)

Current Stations:
- 1 Antares Yard (with 6 ships not yet started on construction)
- 1 Storage Dock (at the distant expansion)
- 1 Phaser Turret (at the expansion)
- 1 Sensor Array (at the expansion)

The questions laid are:

1] Which opponent (AI Merciless or Human) would probably be your worst enemy in this crisis?
2] How would you go about rebuilding your bases and/or your fleet?
3] How would you make up for the lack of defensive capabilities during your rebuild phase?

It seems strange that someone would destroy your starbase and most of your stations, but leave a shipyard intact.  And moons can't be depeleted, though in the situation you described the miners and stations could easily have been destroyed.  But anyways, I'd say an AI Merciless would probably be more dangerous, because they would probably already have another fleet coming at you.  Also, if a player decided to leave your shipyard alive, they probably wouldn't attack for a bit to give you a bit more time to rebuild.  Though that depends on the player.

The main problem I see is that you have only one freighter and no starbase, so you can't build more freighters.  I guess I'd alternate the one freighter from tri to dil, switching it to dil immediately to compensate for my lack of it.  Unfortunately, given the high cost of rebuilding a starbase, it doesn't seem like a good idea to work towards that, so I think the best option would be to build a couple inexpensive ships (such as those already queued at the shipyard) and attempt to capture a few freighters from an opponent's expansion.  At the same time I would try to get the resources to build a mining station (maybe even more than one), probably at the nearest safe dil moon, to build up my economy.

The defenses at the distant expansion are adequate for the moment, especially considering your limited capacity to rebuild, so I'd keep the akiras (because if I remember correctly they're slower) back to guard the shipyard and contructor, because if it is lost you have no chance of rebuilding.

I would say that your worst enemy would be a romulan/klingon human.

you need to get your starbase up, so you take a construction ship, and move to a spot closer to your enemy, but in a place like a corner right under their noses, or an easily defend able asteroid belt.  then build a starbase with many turrets, and get that cloak dector working.  at the same time you have to send a couple of ships, like one saber to their base, attack their last ships, and confuse them as to where you are located.

most likely though, their cloaked ships will find your construction ship en-route, and the game would be over.

like ruanek said though, most players (if they have time) will allow you time to rebuild, while secretly massing a fleet to destroy you completely the next timel :D

They wouldn't need cloaked ships to find you, the Intel centre would make it almost impossible to avoid the Romulans.

Worst enemy, human dominion.  2 bugs and you're utterly finished.  First one slams the freighter, second one slams the constructor.  You're done for.  Nothing left to you.

Except that people don't ram anymore.

I dunno about that i played a match of FO with my freind and he literaly used bug ships as battering rams, I dont think i saw a single ship actualy attack with a weapon.

In this scenario, ramming would be better than shooting. There is less chance of the Constructor escaping the attacking Bug that way.

Well ramming in general is highly looked down upon, but ramming constructors and even freighters is just a chump move overall.  It's a gameplay exploit that had not been foreseen and should not be implemented.

Well it could be a hell of alot worse, The bug ships could literaly be a one hit kill like in the shows.
At least the Devs didnt do that  :D.

If theres a Patch coming maybe make it so things like that need research, Or make it a Veteran Ability.
Somthing along those lines would be nice as the Ram ability has saved my sorry behind from a few cubes that wanted to eat me.

i would definately say klingons.
he spams soome brels (6-9) and then mops up your freighter, the intrepids+ akiras (because torpedo akira+ brel is pretty easy) and then can send them out with their impressive speeds to unt down your last miner/constructor. the yard can be destroyed somewhen else, because without resources it is useless, and the phaser turre is a piece of cake with even only one sang/velequaragh

Romulans would be worse; Klingons have to find you, the Romulan Intel Centre will find your ships and stations instantly with the click of a single button.

but remember, he said it was an ffa game^^ no matter how many people play within, the chances of hitting the last 6 ships instead of another enemy are rather small^^

Only if it is rank 1-3. If it is higher than 4, it highlights everything on the map that isn't yours.
