Why so expensive?....

Question about the Romulans; Why is just about EVERY ship so expensive to make?! >:( Whenever I play as the Rom's, I think of building up a suitable attack force to launch a few hit-and-run style attacks against my enemies. However, even the smallest of ships costs an unhealthy amount of dilithium early game-wise. Even if I can survive into late-game, I end up only producing ships out of the Warbird yard, as they seem more bang for the buck than any of the ships that come out of the Staryard.

That is the way they have been balanced. The Klingons seem to be more of the real hit-and-run faction, like in DS9.

I realize the reasons are balancing issues, however, I simply don't like the fact that I have to keep saving up for some smaller cannon fodder hit squads. Don't get me wrong, once they've leveled a bit, they're more of an asset than they were before. But when they're fresh out of the yard, it gets irritating to keep spending chunks of my economy to produce some ships, only to have them swatted away. It could be just my gameplay style; get ships out, find some enemy ships to show, blow 'em up before the rest of the fleet shows up.

Really good question enterprise d, well with the execution of all remans after the shinzon "incident" the romulan star empire lost its major cheap work force.
The yards now had to employ romulans which are entitled to romulan minimum wage, dental care and health insurance.
Furthermore acquiring enough workers for the yards has proven to be much more difficult than expected, due to the fact that most romulans prefer to spend their time hiding, spying and planning sneaky stuff, the yards had to come up with additional benefits and bonuses (e.g. free romulan ale).
This and the instable warbird market (but thats another story) pushed prices very high lately.
Thanks for your interest in romulan society.

Just for that, I'm gonna give the Rommies another try around, see if I can't screw up the Dominion some...

Who needs ships when you have the Intel Centre?

we should just remove all rommie ships and return the intel centre to its former glory of beta 2 days. point click and boom- the cunning choice.

Rommies are so expensive because of their survivability. Because of their cloak and because of how cloak detection works right now, makes it very easy for them to just cloak and fly away.
For this reason there are absolutely no cannon fodder ships in Romulan buildlist, they all have excelet uses up untill the late game. And because you dont loose a lot of them they must be expensive to compensate balance wise,
Also lets not forget that even in ST, Romulans are few in number (ships I mean) but they make up for that with strenght and suprise factor. This comes across excelently in FO IMHO In fact I think right now, its the Romulans, Borg and Klingons that are protrayed (sp?) as I imagined them from the shows. The federation is way too spammy for my taste and the Dominion not spammy enough

Currently playing that game against the Dominion. It's challenging. I'm all good tech-wise, got some Warbirds out, and continually building ships from Staryard. I can't get through my wormhole though!!! Dominion keeps sending a steady flow of ships

A rebalancing? :whistling:
Very nice ^-^
Enterprise: Your playing a closed map I see. Turret up, build your force and then attack Its only a waiting game - they will just keep sending the same sized waves at you and if you can stop them the first time it becomes pretty easy to beat them

Funny thing happened. I alt-tabbed out to do a little bit of work, and when I returned, I saw that I left the game running Here I thought, "Aw, I'm screwed," but the defenses and ships that I had set up held out quite nicely, and I got a lot of Dilithium and Tritanium
