Wow that's a big head line There... Mining stations

Which race do you like most? What do you like - what you don't like? Discuss it here.

Still getting used to the new forum...
I've got a question for the upcoming new version of Fleet Operations. Maybe this could be worth a news also.

In the current game the way of getting resources is the same for all races. You build a station then a number of freighters harvest by circulating the moon. Now, especially for the Borg, this way of harvesting is extremely inefficient. I could rather imagine that some races directly build a station around a moon that delivers a steady flow of resources or a number of tiny shuttle like ships are attracted by a nearby moon, swarm out and start harvesting to finally bring it back to the station.

How will resource harvesting look like for the different races?

I darkly memorize a news post that talked about a shell around moons that need to be shot away... but still the question remained if there will be visual and technical differences among all races...

Thanks a lot for any useful answer.

Isn't this already planned for ciadan? direct on moon mining. switching all races to stations on moons is a big change, and completely gets rid of the game mechanic of raiding by attacking miners.

also yes subjects are huge, AND IN ALL CAPS. which i guess makes it impossible for people to have overuse of all caps thread titles.

The Borg aren't limited to the regular mining method, they already have 3 methods of getting resources; regular mining, Recycling Centre and freighters that generate resources without mining.

The Ciaden will have the 'station around a moon' approach you mentioned*.

From the Guide - Intelligence Report: Ciadan
Only the Ciadan can build "Dyson Spheres" (they don't call them Dyson Spheres though). These facilities are automated, so they don't have crew. However, if you assimilate or board the necessary Ciadan ships you can build up one yourself. If there is a “Dyson Sphere” around a resource moon, no other player can mine from this moon. Of course the sphere can be destroyed like every mining station.

So, at least 1 race will have a radically different mining system. Also worthy of note is how the Iconians are planned to function.

From the Guide - Intelligence Report: Iconians
As the Iconians have lost their presence in this timeline, they warp in their vessels from the future or parallel Universes, where they dominate the galaxy. Therefore the Iconians have no need for collecting resources. Their only resource--if you want to call it that--is time and their vessels do have the longest “construction” times. The longer a game takes, the more vessels you can you expect. Most Iconian station upgrades and vessels take long to build.

Question: What are refering to with this comment?

I thought that Borg mining was comparable with the other races, just accomplished with fewer ships. Is this not true? What are the numbers for this?

Ahh!! Double ninja'd!

you could also consider assimilating and deconstructing ships as a way of gaining resources.
and the tavara special

come to think of it all factions can beam over and capture to do the same anywho..

Yeah, when starting this thread I was searching for the head line field and could find it until I found that fat line that turned out to be exactly it .

Concerning the Ciadan... I'm talking about the upcoming new version and not FO version 5.0. Having races with a different type of mining would just make them less vulnerable for raids. There is absolutely no disadvantage for game play. It rather improves variety and encourages teching instead of spending all resources on small ships. Balance wise I don't see a problem. Once a fix station is established it can be destroyed. Mining modules could be build in that station that could be shot separately. There is a ton of intelligent and creative options which is why I ask.

Yes, there are some plans for changes to the mining system similar to the ideas here: most likely our three traditional (Fed, Rom, Kling) factions will maintain the current system for at least the time being :)
