Guide Layout Poll

I have recently done work to get the Guide's layout and navigation to more user friendly. Now I have two layout models, the new one and the old one.

The major changes in the newer layout idea to the old one:

• No vertical menu. Instead of getting a content page from the section itself, a "roadmap" page will be presented when a section is selected from the horizontal menu.
• "Roadmap" pages. The first thing in the section. Contains a contents listing of the section with small descriptions. Breadcrumbs are connected to these pages.
• Breadcrumbs. They probably will get to the guide in any case, but here they are.

There is also an option for combined layout, which would be the same as option 1, but would have vertical menu as well.

I haven't decided the color schemes or other decorations yet, and I would prefer that those wouldn't be discussed in this thread.

I posted image of both layouts. The other is edited to make it more comparable with the other one. Both images are from the first page of the strategy section. Click the image to get a bigger image.

Hmm, its hard to see the second one because the pic is so small, but It looks neater.

the second one looks more 'lCARS'-ish, and therefore more star trek-ish.

I also think it is easer on the second one to get to where you want, if you want to go to Risner on option #1 you have to scroll down a lot, on #2 it's right there and you just need to click.

Like that your putting so much effort into it though, and asking our ideas. They both look good, the second one just a little better.

I second that, Shadow.   I like the buttons from the second one, and it looks more interactive to me.

Well since my option is losing i want to make sure that the roadmap menu is included

Yeah, I could definitely see both being added.  So when you select strategy, it gives you the road map, but the vertical "LCARS" bar is still there.  Then you can either select from the road map/bread crumbs, or from the bar on the side.  Everybody wins then!

Yeah, I think option 1 (the current one) is the best.

nukey option 2 is the current one.

i selected a combo of the two. the first option, the new deisgn, looks very nice, but i think that the quick links on the left are a very useful feature, and should remain. the breadcrumbs nav idea is of course a brilliant idea.

Thank you for your opinions and votes. The updated layout will be the combination of those two options.
