CRASH:

Do you have a question on map editing, how use the map manager or want to make your new map public? Post here.

So I was working on a new map tonight and I set a Unity One station to this:

  • Team 8  (only 4 used)
  • 10 Crew placed
  • 100 Crew Maximum
  • Invincible and Cannot Die checked
  • Shields at 0 (current and max strength)
  • Shield Subsystem Set an inactive AND Permanently disabled.  I may have also set it's hp to 0.
  • A VERY long custom name.  I am wondering if this was the cause.

Everything was fine until I tried to save the map.  When I did that, Armada Crashed and the file disappeared from the map list.  I could see it by loading a different map, then selecting (load new map) and trying that, but again a crash.

Could it be that the name was to long?
Could it be that you cannot adjust the "max" shields on a vessels?
Could it be that I turned off too many of the options in the subsystem list for Shields?

I am effectively trying to create a neutral repair station that is controllable by anyone who can transport enough crew onboard.  It will sit in the middle of the map and repair anyone who is in control of it (remember 100 crew maximum).

However this seems to be making it crash.  Devs?  Ideas?

Ok so I have determined through Trial AND Error that at least ONE cause of the crash is that the "Displayname" of said station cannot be too long.  I don't know the exact parameters ... but that's enough to crash the map and corrupt it from reloading.  Nice.

I was really having fun giving it a custom name.  Any way that can be adjusted?

EDIT:

Upon FURTHER experimentation ... it appears that my dream of having a truly neutral station able to be controlled by whomever can successfully keep 100 crew on it are dashed as of 3.1.1.

I cannot keep the shields on the station off unless the crew begins at 0 and they immediately begin to regenerate even if I have them set at "permanently disabled".  Bummer.  I also set the "Maximum Crew" to 100 and it decided to ignore that as I watched the actual crew skyrocket beyond that.  Ooooooh well!

Can I just put this idea out there for a future patch as it is something that I feel would give we mapmakers a VERY exciting draw towards otherwise unimportant areas of a map.  Having a truly neutral station that is invulnerable except to being boarded and could act as a repair facility would be a very interesting addition to maps and give them further dimensions of gameplay.

yep neutral stations are on todo, but they will work differently :)

Hhaha Ok ^-^.

If Dom is watching, the "Display Name is too Long" problem might be a good thing to put in the Map Editing section of the guide.  Once you save your map with that name being too long, you cannot re-open it and the whole damn thing is lost :S.

 I'm always watching  :cloak:

Thanks for pointing that out

EDIT: any chance that a certain Mr. DOca Cola would be willing to say how many characters it will take? I know that at least nineteen do :)

That would be nice :D.  I had a nuetral repair-only station up as "Ferengi Pete's Starwash".  Then a long list of legal disclaimers :D.

  It didn't like that.

Too bad :( . Maybe making a bunch of other stations nearby that have the disclaimers would do it then :D

Would changing the verbose tooltip for the station change the game version?  That way you could put as many disclaimers as you want! :woot:
