This will be a medium-sized map, possibly the same size as Star Traffic or larger.

I eyeballed everything while drawing it so it's not exact, obviously it will be balanced so moons etc. are equal distances from each start position.
this is ketchup chips from Tunngle. I deleted my forum account a little while ago, but I've decided to re-create it

That certainly looks promising. No nebulae?

looks like a turtling/techrace-map with the expansions close to your base like that. Nothing inbetween the bases to fight over, really. That one moon pair inbetween the roids is kinda hard to reach only from the sides, and with there only two ways towards it that might encourage turtling some more.

You'll need to change B and D's forward expansions somehow: the problem is that certain races will be able to build a forward base there that makes it impossible to raid their home mining.
Right now all the moons are in relatively safe positions, which encourages turtling. Consider shrinking the blockage in the middle and moving all the forward expansions toward the enemy.

This is a draft. If he makes the map max size (for example) the situation will be different. There's plenty of options for a nice ally interaction and raiding possibilities for the opponents is also positive. I agree on the middle moon pair. It's sorta unattractive. More incentive would be nice to expand into this area in early game.

Thank you all for the insightful comments
You're right, the moons are quite close... I didn't quite realize when I made this but everything is rather large and the spaces in between are rather small. The expansions will be a good distance away from the starting positions when I create the map.
What do you suggest I should do with the centre moon pair? Should I remove it all together, or relocate it?

Having moons that are not "assigned" to any particular player provides more strategic choices. I would say leave them, but have the middle a little more open.

Obviously as others have said it needs to be open north to south or maybe even both ways with the roids being the "corners".

The corners idea is a good one. I had it open north to south on a previous map but nobody went that way. I think I will try having it open all four ways.
